Hey everyone. My friend is NOT a singer.. he is an actor, but for a summer program, he has to audition with two songs and a monologue. What are some good male audition songs that are character-y, and don't have to sing very well to pull off? He also has no idea what type of voice part he is.. and said he could try anything. Any ideas would be great. Thanks!!

In the future, the student board is where this should go.
The Lockstock solo from "Too Much Exposition" from Urinetown can be pretty easily talked through with only a little singing.

"Camelot" from CAMELOT and "Why Can't the English" from MY FAIR LADY come to mind.

...Waiting for someone to do that.
Lizzy I was so tempted to do that after I saw the the title...But I am glad someone else was on the same page as me.
"Be Like the Bluebird" from Anything Goes
"It Takes a Woman" from Hello, Dolly!
I'd second Too Much Exposition
Great Big Stuff from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
all of Usnavi's stuff from In The Heights, lol

I think the point is to do SOME semblance of song. "Great Big Stuff" is basically a rap.
Only one jumps out to me that hasn't been mentioned yet:
"As Good as You" - Jane Eyre ~ The Musical
Great Big Stuff does have somewhat of a melody...

...The way that "Colt 45" has somewhat of a melody.

If he can't sing, then wouldn't he be auditioning for a straight acting program? Why would an acting program make you do two songs and only one monologue?
I second "Brush up Your Shakespeare"!
Can he at least carry a tune...or a few notes? If so I might recommend "Very Soft Shoes" from 'Once Upon a Mattress'. I could be wrong on suggesting that but it comes to mind because when we did it in college our Jester could not sing and pulled it off well.
I would also recommend "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid" from 'Forum'.

A Secretary is Not a Toy

I suggest nearly anything that Lauren Bacall sang in Applause or Woman of the Year, lol!
I would suggest If I Were A Rich Man, from Fiddler.

I maintain that everyone CAN sing...but some shouldn't.

I think I meant Big A*s Rock
'cause doesn't he only have to do 16 bars in the audition?
