NOOO.

Well of course. And why not. When a movie makes a sh*tload of money, they naturally want to make a sequel.

That's all it's ever about.
Greedy producers.
BUt hey, I'd invest in it

Let's hope that appearing in MAMMA MIA 2 (MAMMA MAMMA MIA MIA) will keep Meryl occupied enough to prevent her playing Violet Weston in the inevitable film of AUGUST OSAGE COUNTY.
Amanda Seyfried confirmed last week that she & Meryl are definitely in.
Amanda NEVER stated nor confirmed that a film IS indeed happening. All she stated was that she was aware that one was being considered and that she was sure that Meryl would indeed agree to be in the film (as would she) if it were to happen.
Again... Amanda NEVER stated nor confirmed that she and Meryl were starring in a MAMMA MIA! sequel. She only stated that she WOULD definitely consider being in it IF it were to happen.
"I've been talking to some insiders and it's not something that they haven't been working on. I don't actually know anything other than that. "I know it's still going to be Abba music, because what else would it be. Come on, I wouldn't do Mamma Mia 2 without Benny and Bjorn."
"I think we all had the best time and we all got along so well. It was like some days it felt like we were just people on vacation. I will do it. And I know Meryl's game as well, so bring it on. It will be so cool."
I've said this elsewhere, but in my opinion, ABBA doesn't have enough "popular" songs left to make this sequel successful. However, I think ABBA's lesser known later songs are their true gems. "The Visitors" (their last album) is my favourite album of theirs.

Something must be happening officially, Brody.
Not 2 months ago Amanda said it was completely pointless to do a sequel. What a difference two months make...
Actually, many of their biggest hits in Europe (a HUGE chunk of the audience for the film) were not even in MM1 such as "Arrival", "Fernando" (which was also their biggest US hit - yes I know Meryl hums it) and others.
I, too, think that MM1 actually utilizes mostly the WEAKEST material of the B&B catalog, which more often than not was the hit material in the US. I also rank their last album as their best.
Frankly, there's enough GOOD material in that catalog for TWO sequels, and I actually really like this idea (call me crazy) and hope that IF they do one more they may also want to leave the door open to another.
Lastly, I hope they go a little RED DRAGON with it and make it more a companion piece than a sequel/prequel whatever.
I can think of about a million different plots to link together some of the most appropriate material from that catalog, though I hope this is a better MADE film than the first one.
And if all else fails they could always do CHESS. Or could Meryl out-bad Idina?
P
I would NEVER have guessed "Arrival" was a big hit. Unless you meant the album, and not the single. I'm 18 years old, so I wasn't around back in the 70's. I'm only going by what my parents know or think they know. I do agree that some of the songs in Mamma Mia are their weaker songs.
I don't think "Arrival" (an instrumental track) was released as a single anywhere, was it?
Well lets hope the title isn't Mamma Mia 2.
I agree that there there is a bundle of ABBA songs that outshine MM's songs. "I am The City" "Just Like That" "IF It Wasen't For The Knights" "I'm A Marionette"
Some of the songs just need a more modern flair here or there.

I have no idea how they'd include it, but I hope they would use my favorite ABBA song of all time, "Elaine."
I do like that song, it's not one of my favourites, but I just wish the content and subject of the song were different. I honestly can't take some of their songs that seem to be about some fictional person seriously. (ie. The Piper, Cassandra (though I LOVE Cassandra), and Hey, Hey Helen)
One of my favourites is Suzy-Hang-Around, but again, it's not appropriate for Mamma Mia.
I wish they would bring back Under Attack, which was my favorite song in the stage production. And I'll never know why they used When All is Said and Done when the GORGEOUS song, The Way Old Friends Do would have been much more appropriate and effective.
I'd love to hear any of these songs in the sequel:
As Good as New (my all-time favorite)
You Owe Me One
Just Like That
That's Me
I've Been Waiting For You
One Man, One Woman
So Long
On and On and On
Happy New Year
My Love, My Life
Why Did it Have to Be Me?
The Day Before You Came
Angel Eyes
If It Wasn't For the Nights
Summer Night City
I Let the Music Speak
Dance (While the Music Still Goes On)
Should I Laugh or Cry
Unfortunately, many of their songs simply wouldn't work trying to shoehorn their narratives into a screenplay such as Two for the Price of One, When I Kissed the Teacher, The Visitors, Head Over Heels, The Piper, Fernando or Soldiers.
