Because it's fun.

exactly.

I laugh my ass off when someone tries to bring up "artistic integrity" and THIS movie.

it's fun, gay, and fabulous! just mindless entertainment (with some fierce Meryl Streep acting) and that's the best...

Mamma Mia! is insanely popular right now.

" How does one of the worst movies ever made make this much money in two weeks? This movie really is being saved by its foreign distribution."

Exactly how is the foreign box contributing to the take on America's screens?

As to your question it's making the money it is for the same reason "The Dark Knight"
is making the money it is: people want to see it.

That may be incomprehensible to you just as it's astounding to me that anyone who didn't have a gun pointed at his head would wait in line four hours to see a movie at 3:00 a.m. in the morning.

I'm guessing there are tens of millions like me who wouldn't wait on any line for four hours even if it was to see the second coming.

This is a likely candidate for worst movie of the year.

I didn't think it was THAT bad, but I could see Meryl getting a Razzie nomination. I love the idea that she wanted to play loosey-goosey, but the reality is more strained and obvious than the idea.
