Don't get me wrong. I loved this movie. It was the most fun I had at the movies this summer. The article states due to popular demand but this is the first I heard of their being a demand for a Sing-A-Long version.

This sounds like an awful idea to me. An entire theater of pitchy singers singing ABBA. I personally hate it when people are too loud with their candy, let along singing along with the movie

Posted: 8/19/08 at 5:54pmPersonally I wouldn't go to it at all. It sounds like something I would do for a bunch of friends at my house. Invite them over for dinner and drinks and then pop in a musical dvd hit the subtitles option and have ourselves a sing-a-long just for fun.

Posted: 8/19/08 at 5:57pmI don't think it was a wide release, but it was done for Hairspray (2007) at the Arcligh Theatre in Hollywood.

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way but between friends it's hilarious and we have fun doing it.

Posted: 8/19/08 at 6:02pmfvalle, I forgot that they did do a sing-a-long version of HAIRSPRAY last year. I guess after the success of audience participation musicals like "Rocky Horror" and the hugely successful "Sound of Music" sing-a-longs it seems that every musical is now given that treatment at some point.

This thread is too much!
Well, to make a long story short...
1st time I tried to see the movie, sold out.
ok I live down the Jersey shore (summer's busy).
Tried later, up north a bit (Linden, NJ) they had a notice before the movie "please don't add your own soundtrack")
Following week, saw it again down here in Hazlet, Monmouth County, there was no notice, and guess what? Everybody sang along!
Now you've got me going...gotta see it again.

Posted: 8/20/08 at 9:36amNo one finds it ironic someone posting as "Brad Majors" is bitching about audience participation movies? You just can't make this stuff up.

It sounds like a lot of fun. I would get wasted first though.

Where do you find out what theaters are participating?
I mean...
not that I'm going...
a friend of a friend wants to know...

THE MAMMA MIA HORROR SHOW
Audience members yell "GAY!" everytime Colin Firth speaks.
Audience members collectively put fingers in ears when Brosnan tries to sing.
Audience members hold up cocktail glasses on every line Baranski says.

The families with young children at the showing I went to were under the impression that any performance was a sing-along.

Posted: 8/20/08 at 11:44pmI'm actually likeing this idea. I had the urge to sing the songs when i saw it but i was sitting on the left side of the theatre...when we walked in the usher said if we were going to sing or dance to sit on the right side but that was basically full so we were forced to sit on the left side. Darn ushers!
