Posted: 5/17/05 at 1:05pmI can name one--the Lookingglass Theatre Company. Outside of Mary Zimmerman's work, which is unarguably brilliant, they are to many an overrated, smug, showoffy, self-satisfied company that owes their success, complete with state-of-the-art space in the Water Tower pumping station on ritzy Michigan Ave., to the fact that one of their company members played a whiny nerd for ten years on a certain NBC Thursday night sitcom. ("Friends"--figure out who it is for yourself.) But Hedy has loved them and praised them to the gills when every other critic in town has torn them up. (One show that had a "not recommended" rating from her had a review that still read more like a rave.) When she a took a year-long sabbatical some years ago when her then boy friend was working for NPR in Berlin, her fill-ins panned Lookingglass consistently and a company member told me that they couldn't wait for her return.

Posted: 5/17/05 at 1:12pmYes indeed...most everything at Lookingglass Theatre Company is brilliant. But if you believe her rave reviews aren't you then forced to believe her pans?

I don't believe critics.
I read them (sometimes) and like em or hate em.
I was involved in a Robert Altman film that had it's lovers and haters and what an experience it was reading the reviews.
