Jack42- what makes any of us qualified to judge theater? This is a message board isn't it?

I think I just said in the last post the way I feel about the massive amount of movies being turned into musicals...or did you miss that.

"Is there a musical idea that you have that you think really stretches the boundaries of musical theater and advances the art form?"- I merely asked him a question and he gave me a very straightfoward answer. That's all that I asked for and I got what I wanted. I don't think it is to much to ask that the theater I see be new, intriguing, never before seen work that pushes the boundaries and tries to offer something new to be considered.

Whoa........ I am shocked. Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine that there would be a way for ME, the little dreamer girl from Ohio, to talk to Marc Shaiman, or any other Broadway uhh "affiliated" people? Is that right? lol This is crazy for me!!

I'd rather debate a BestOfBroadway, who wears his anger on his sleeve than a King Stevos (who I understand is hot!) who couldn't even bring himself to write a 2 sentence post without chiming in about his opinion of what he considers my "biggest" success

that's what I've been mostly trying to say here folks...why must everyone here be so eager to share their negative thoughts. What ever happened to manners and civility...wait a second, now I'm ripping off Fred Ebb!

I was actually gonna post into good old Broadway.Com when HAIRSPRAY was out-of-town in Seattle, to share how glorious it was to see it blossoming, to share what it felt like to be a lover of Musical Comedy getting to see his most fantastic dreams come true...but I didn't, cause I knew it would just be a chance for some to find something negative about my posting at all, i.e. "Just trying to grease the pan for it's opening" blah, blah, blah

ENJOY theatre!! And try to learn that even with a computer screen between you and the world, it's always best to get to know someone before you "confide" to them (in a public forum) your likes and dislikes...

and don't worry 'bout me...(now this is gonna really piss of some...here goes) The joy most get from HAIRSPRAY sincerely only makes me feel bad for those who don't enjoy it...I have never known the contentment it has given me and I am profoundly grateful

Mr. Shaiman has hit on a topic some of us have been trying to stress. So many of you have such negative things to say about everything. If you think a post is pointless, you'll say it, and you'll make sure we all hear it and take offense to it.

Like I've said repeatedly, this is a message board where theater lovers should get together and friendly discuss theater, not a place online where people should jump on other people's mistakes and ridicule them for their own enjoyment.

It sounds like I'm kissing ass here, but a lot of you know about how I feel about the whole negativity disease on this board.

First of all -- Welcome to the boards Marc :) It's a pleasure to have you here!

Second of all -- no, you're not the first broadway professional to post on a broadway message board... I actually met one of my very best broadway friends through one of the message boards I post to!

Also, yes, negativity tends to over-run the board sometimes, and I'm guilty of it myself -- *cough* Melanie Griffith in Chicago *cough*. But I think honestly, everyone here is just really overzealous about what they love; And that's wonderful. Though sometimes it can escalate into something more, hence an argument. I think too the arguments are more easily brewed here due to the VAST age group we have posting. Not making excuses or saying it's acceptable at all, but it *does* make it more difficult. I'll admit to having taken tiny hiatus's from various boards for the exact same reason.

Anyway -- before I go off onto a huge tanget as I so often do....
