Marcus Theaters which has screens in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, North Dakota and Iowa and in such cities as Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wisc.; Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio; and Minneapolis. Will not be showing Sweeney Todd when it opens later this week!

A story from this morning's Variety...

"In an unusual showdown, Midwest exhib Marcus Theaters has told Paramount Pictures it will not book Johnny Depp movie musical "Sweeney Todd" in any of its 49 theaters because the studio's asking price was too high.
It's rare for an exhibitor and studio to end up in such a situation. Paramount, which is distributing the DreamWorks-Warner Bros. co-production domestically, unspools "Sweeney Todd" on Friday in more than 1,200 theaters nationwide.

"Unfortunately, as a result of the negotiations with Paramount reaching an impasse, Marcus Theaters will not be showing 'Sweeney Todd' in any of its locations," Marcus prexy Bruce J. Olson said in a statement.

"This decision was reluctantly reached because the price requested by Paramount to show the film in Marcus Theaters was too expensive in the opinion of our film buyers," Olson said."

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

For once it wasn't some dumb neoconservative religious thug pushing his fundamentalism on the public. This time it's all about money and not blood. It's almost refreshing. We all know what Sweeney would say....

allofmylife, I completely agree.

I was all set to read about how some Jesus freaks were boycotting the movie.

Unfortunately, this situation will directly affect me. re: Marcus Theaters, say no to 'Sweeney Todd'

I'm going home to Duluth MN for the holiday, leaving tomorrow and not back home until 12/27. All of the movie theaters in Duluth are owned by Marcus. This means that, if I want to see it, I have to convince someone to drive me 120 miles to see it.

F-ing ridiculous. That's what I get for growing up in the wild.

What I hope is that the movie is a huge hit and this company scrambles to release it in their theaters. Ahhh...that's right...

That's so 9-year-old of me.

Even if this film managed to be #1 opening weekend (Which it won't) movie theaters could make tons of money with the other films out there. I had no idea studios tried to get more for specific films- I thought everything ran off a percentage of tickets sold.

Constant TV ads here in Denver and it is only opening in one theatre outside of Downtown Denver. This happened with Chicago also here in Denver.

But again, it's all about money. Sorry for your loss. Glad it's not for reasons I can't condone.
