Thought the show was so-so but the trailer looks SOOO good! And the show transforms so beautifully on film!

Posted: 5/20/08 at 11:55amIt seems very good. I sort of want to read the book now (that's what I do when a musical based on a book comes out and I cannot see it!)

It is a fantastic piece. The score, plot & design are amazing.
Ruthie gives the best performance of her life and the rest of the cast aren’t too far behind. My only snag is the script is quite poor at times.
It’s press night tonight. I really hope it does well.
After a stream of naff juke box musicals, reality TV casting shows and Gone with the Wind (LOL) London is really suffering.

The score by Michel Legrand is truly beautiful - deserving of a better show. Ruthie Henshall and Julian Ovenden and the cast work their butts off but the story is pure melodrama and leaves them floundering, sadly.
Setting La Dame aux Camellias in Nazi occupied Paris brings in a political dimension this tale simply cannot support. It's one thing for a Fallen Lady to find true love in the guise of a young starry-eyed suitor - it's another when that lady is a Nazi collaborator and the young suitor's friends are being brutalized by the occupation. The show never gets over that hurdle.

Y'think it could make 'the big move' sometime?
I've been interested in seeing this since it's inception.

Posted: 5/21/08 at 5:11pmLegrand writes the most beautiful music ever. Amour remains one of my favorite scores of all time
re: Marguerite - Trailer#11
Posted: 5/21/08 at 5:59pmJust come back from this, the music is spellbinding although I felt the sound quality was a little poor (couldn't hear all the voices in the contrapuntal parts) so I'm going to have to get the cd when it comes out. I felt although all had amazing voices, not everyone had really got into their characters yet this could be down to my next point. But yes the weakest point is the script, it just has no depth which is surprising for its subject matter and could do with some further characterisation work.
