Playbill.com is offering 35 dollar tickets for performances through Thursday this week for Maria Friedman. Tickets are normally 75 so this is a great opportunity for anyone who wanted to go but didnt have the cash for a full ticket.
I am going next friday, but I suggest any of you that can, to take this opportunity!!!
What a bargain! What a talent! GO!
When I made my reservation, I asked if there were any kind of minimum and they said no - though menus are available if you want to order a la carte. Hopefully that's true - 35 bucks really is a great deal. If more of their shows had this offer, I might actually attend!
Thanks for the heads-up! Just made a reservation for tomorrow night. :)
Thanks Michael, but are you sure about no minimum? I called the Carlyle to make a reservation and was told that I had to order dinner, latest dinner reservation being 7:30. I consequently backed out and booked Drowsy tickets. When I saw Ute Lemper there for a weekend late show, there was a two drink minimum.

I wish I could go **Cries**
I wish I could go too. Hope the rumours are true and she's actually performing a few concerts in London in August.
I am eating fruit from the bitter tree right now.
Whether it is 35 dollars or 75 dollars, she is worth every last cent, but I can't make it up there to see her.
Someone please post a report about her performance.
Ahimsa - did you mention the Playbill offer? I don't know if that is a point of contention or not - but when I called using that offer code, they said there was no minimum and that doors opened at 8.
Maybe somebody who's attended the Carlyle regularly can clarify?
UPDATE:
A poster on ATC attended the show last night and confirmed that there is NO food/drink minimum.

I called the Carlyle again. They pressed me that dinner was required. Then said it was an a la carte menu and you can order what you want. Then I said, what would prevent you from not ordering anything? The response, well that would be rude to someone who wanted to go and have food and couldn't get in. I then said that I made other plans because of the food requirement, and then I was told that they could make the reservation for "show only" Go. figure. I'm sick that I may have made the wrong choice now -- Drowsy over Maria. Your thoughts?
Apparently, some shows at the Carlyle have a food and drink minimum, but not Maria Friedman's engagement, though I'm sure they do "encourage" ordering.
I'm sure you will have a great time at DC. There are discounted tickets available for Friedman next week as well, but they are 45 dollars, not 35...

I made my reservation for next week. They do try to push a dinner time, but as long as you're clear that you want a show-only reservation you're fine. You just get better seating if you're having dinner. (If I had money for dinner at the Carlyle, I wouldn't have to use a discount code to get in the door!)
SpiderDJ and Harpo, I'm with both of you: wish I could see it for 35 (or 75) dollars, but there's no way I can afford to make it to New York on such short notice.
When I made reservations with the Carlyle, they said there was a food requirement, but I think it is just a courtesy thing. Nonetheless, I will order there, because a nice dinner and seeing Maria isn't a bad thing at all!
$35 this week; $45 next week, and $55 the following week. all prices are good for tuesday through thursday nights. show time is 8:45pm. no minimums. $75 per person friday and saturday nights. look forward to going this week.

Saw the show last night - we paid $35, were smack in the front, and only had drinks. Granted, the drinks were expensive, but this show is NOT TO BE MISSED. It is well worth any money you will spend on it. Don't even think about the money, and just GO if you can. You won't regret it. It is a wonderful night of music and acting, a master class in musical theater, and far superior to much of what's offered on Bway right now.
I was there last night as well and totally agree! I actually got there a bit early for my show-only reservation and decided to splurge and have dinner. It was definitely expensive, but, a really lovely evening... what a great, intimate venue! I was also blown away by Maria Friedman's performance... and loved the song choices. She's so nice and gracious, too!
I've been telling everyone at work that they should go.
Thanks again to the original poster for the heads-up. :)
Is it an all-Sondheim program? I've heard that she sings "Gorgeous" from THE APPLE TREE, too...
all sondheim. all love songs. all gorgeous.
I attended last night and it was glorious. Maria Friedman has got to be considered, along with Bernadette Peters, the preeminent female interpreter of Sondheim's works.
Highlights included a devastating medley from "Sunday in the Park with Dot" as Friedman laughingly referred to it; a handful of Sondheim songs even I'd never heard before, and some wonderful stories about her personal relationship with Sondheim (he's the godfather of her young son, who calls him "Stephen Songuy, the sandwich man")
Hopefully Friedman will be back on Broadway sometime soon. She's one of the most talented musical theatre performers of her generation.

I am so glad to hear someone else share that opinion with me! IMHO, she truly is glorious... and I've never even been given the pleasure of seeing her perform live.
I can only hope that she'll be back on Broadway some time soon, and will get her well-deserved Tony nod that time around.
I cannot wait! A week from today I get to see her and give her my scrapbook! REMINDER! If anyone wants to add a fan letter, I would like them by this sunday. PVT me here! MARIA is amazing!!!!!
