I just woke up with that idea. I think her husky voice would be great in that role. A bit like Glynis Johns in the movie. Some might think it is not a "big enough" role for her but I think she would be great.

Didn't they hugely expand the role from what it was in the movie?
She is in a lot more scenes even if they did cut Sister Sufragettes. You can see her in A spoonful of sugar for example and her new solo song, Being Mrs Banks is absolutely gorgeous.
What a fantastic idea! Love MF.

Being Mrs. Banks is like 30 seconds long though
Its still way too small a role for Maria Friedman.
Is it awful that I only just realized Glynis John is in the movie?!
Damn, now I need to watch Mary Poppins again. I love me some Desiree Armfeldt!
Maria would never take this role.
Ahhhh! Elizabeth from Keeping Up Appearances! Love that show!
I adore "Being Mrs. Banks" and I don't think its 30 seconds long. Its a full length song and gorgeous by the way. Unfortunantly, as much as the role has been expanded, its still small for someone like Maria Friedman. Now to be honest, if she was 15 years younger, I'd consider her for Mary Poppins in terms of looks. Vocally, she could pull it off like no other!
To see her in anything is AMAZING!
Maria is the british Liza, she is an outstanding performer plus a great story teller, she is so expressive.
You should have seen her Fosca in Passion. She even was a great Roxy, her monologue was with Ruthie's, the funniest I've ever seen. On the other hand, she made me cry many times with her "Loose Ends" as Sukie Rougement.
Maria Friedman is one of my favorite broadway actresses so talkented and so sweet! I truly think she would be amazing in any role given to her. However I would much rather see her in a leading role.
