Marie Osmond as THE DROWSY CHAPERONE?

Having seen those pictures of her holding TDC vinyl on Bob Martin's chair...I began thinking. She would make a fabulous Drowsy Chaperone replacement for Beth Leavel, whenever she so chooses to leave.
I don't know. I could be way off. But, it just hit me. I think she'd be fantastic. And I'm not even a big Osmond fan. But something tells me it would be the perfect vechicle for her Broadway return.
Anyone else?

That makes me think too.
Donny Osmand should come to Broadway and play Janet's Finacee. Or maybe the best man. Or michael ball can play both at the same time.

Even with my burning hatrid for Rachel York... I want her for the role. I think that'd really be the only she'd be good at it (after butchering two of my favorite roles).
If she got the part, I'd see the show again.
Marie Osmond... eh, no.

Rachel York is a fabulous actress and has been pure gold in everything she's been in. She's far too young to play the part. Even though she can play older well. It's not her time for this role.
She's never even come close to butchering anything I've ever seen her in.

You said it, FindYourGrail. Rachel York has been stellar in absolutely everything she's done. I've preferred her as a replacement to several of the originals - KMK, DRS, SP2, and Ragtime. Not that I haven't liked the originals. I just think Rachel took each of these roles to an even higher level.
I do think she'd be great as the Chaperone, but I'd much rather see her finally create an original leading role that would put her at the pinnacle where she belongs.

Marie Osmond too 'religious' to play this role?
Apparently you haven't been exposed to her more than adequate acting skills and totally twisted sharp-wit. She would more than bring something extra to the role if she took it on.
Marie Osmond, like her brother Donny, don't take themselves seriously and fully embrace any opportunity to play against their 'type'.
I would even love to see her take on Donna Sheridan in MAMMA MIA! or even Velma in HAIRSPRAY.

Brody, I am well aware of Marie Osmond's skills and her humour. I didn't say she couldn't do the role of the Drowsy Chaperone, but that she never would take such a role. When she was doing THE KING AND I on Broadway, she mentioned all the different roles that have been offered to her over the years - the subject of Rizzo in GREASE came up and she said because of her faith, she wouldn't feel comfortable playing a character on stage that drank, used profanity or had unmarried sex.
I think its safe to say the requirements for CHAPRONE fit squarely under her "no-nos" list...

In regards to Rachel York, I agree with other posters in that she is more of a Janet. She's a bit too fresh faced to start taking on character roles.
Am I the only one who thinks Andrea Martin would be the perfect Drowsy Chaperone?

Also, that was about 10 years ago. Judging by the way her personal life has unfolded and the attitude she has towards certain 'real life' issues, I don't think her religious viewpoint remains the same as it was back then.

Disagree. She defines herself as a character actress - Norma Cassidy, Lilli/Kate, Lucille Ball. While I think she can still play youthful roles beautifully (Guenevere), her comedy and versatility suit her to a wide range of possibilities. She's not limited to either or. Is she the first person who comes to mind as the Drowsy Chaperone, based on Beth Leavel being the originator? No. Could she do it? Absolutely.
I think a host of the women suggested in this thread would be marvelous - Andrea Martin, Victoria Clark, Donna Murphy, all of them excellent choices. Even Stockard Channing if she can belt it out would be fun.
EDIT: Just thought of two more. Lucie Arnaz and Joanna Gleason.

lovesclassics, I didn't mean to imply that York couldn't play the role. She could most certainly do it (probably wonderfully,) but I think she fits Janet more.
One of my concerns with Rachel as the title character is her look. You'd have a hard time finding any Janet opposite her that could make York look past her prime. While makeup does wonders, I just don't see it being believable that she's a boozing older woman whose best days are long gone.
Now Rachel as a young sexy starlet who makes men swoon? That I can see.
