Thanks for the link.
Interesting how the REAL pronunciation of her last name is so different from how we all know it.
She says it: MAHT-ZEE-EH
We all say it: MAY-ZEE or MAH-ZEE

Oh, I get it. You must love those jokes on the Bazooka wrappers.
Yup -- 3 syllables. It's Swedish/Italian, so she pronounces it with a nice italian flavor.
I realized I've been pronouncing her name wrong for a long time.

I guess we all have. I would NEVER have even thought it was pronounced the way she pronounces it. I guess she's made her peace with the mispronouncing since everyone presents her with the incorrect pronounciation.

She twice refers to it as "Maisie" in the video. I don't think she was saying she pronounces it the three syllable way. I think she was pronouncing it that way because she was explaining its origins.

Finally!!!! Although she didn't answer my question about what it was like to originate the roles of Clara and Mother. The Ragtime half was pretty much asked by someone else.
She pronounces it MAY-zee, as does her whole family.
She was merely saying that it's an Italian last name that was pronounced differently generations ago, over there.
I was so glad they put this up...It took so long I was sure they'd forgotten about it/didn't want to deal with it. Too bad they didn't show pics of her in her costume, though!
