What did every think about the 2003 Tony winners? Am I the only one who thought B. Peters was a brilliant Mamma and should have walked away with that Tony hands down???...I think Marissa is extremly cute and made a perfect Tracy but Tony material...I'm not sure....I guess Peters has had her shot many times but I don't know...I have to say I was surprised.
What is the future for Miss Marissa? A bad sitcom and maybe a bit role playing Danny Devito's daughter in a B-movie? She did her job in the show, but it wasn't much of a job. Bernadette was robbed. But can she please cast herself appropriately next time?

Oh gawd...not this crap again!!!!!
Wasn't it decided long ago that there are people who think B Peters deserved it and others who think Marissa deserved it?
I am sick of this stupid debate. Time to move on.
Too true Zoom. I too don't want this argument again! Move on people. Move on.

I haven't seen Hairspray, or Gypsy for that matter, but I do own both soundtracks and I saw Bernadette at the Tonys. Based on that, I think the Tony could have gone to either of Marissa or Bernadette, and I think Marissa was chosen out of politics. She was a newcomber. Bernadette already has two Tonys, a Golden Globe, a bunch of Drama Desk Awards, a Grammy for AGYG... And I doubt this is the last Tony Bernadette will be nominated for. Hopefully, anyway.
Just my 3 cents (inflation, ya know?)

Bernadette didn't get it because of her illness at the beginning of the run.

Okay.. this arguement has been done to death. It's over. Marissa won. Politics? Um, I don't know. That could go both ways. Hairspray was a huge hit, but Bernadette is teh bigger star. I think it may have something to do with teh fact that when Bernadette steps on that stage as Mamma Rose, you see Bernadette as Mamma Rose. When Marissa stepped on that stage as Tracy Turnblad, all you saw was Trac Turnblad. I think that had a lot to do with it. It isn't just about who has the better voice, it is about who embodies that character that they play the best. Once again, the apples and oragnges arguement. They both different and you can't really compae them.. you may liek one more than the other, but you can tell a good apple and a bad apple and a good orange and a bad orange. At the time that the Tony Voters viewed the shows, Marissa was 100% immersed in Tracy when she was on that stage, but when Bernadette stepped onto teh stage, you still saw Bernadette.
Okay, I am done. Moving on.
Even though I am a HUGE fan of Hairspray, I'm not sure who should've won. They both have qualities that were Tony worthy. All in all, I was still happy with the outcome.
