re: Song that Defines You

Aug 28, 2004 — 1:43:17 PM

"Someone Like You" from Jekyll and Hyde "It Sucks to Be Me" from Avenue Q "Not for the Life of Me" from Thoroughly Modern Millie "Unusual Way" from Nine.

Wit by Margaret Edson?

Any opinions? I bought the play last week and I absolutely love it. Has anyone seen it? Who played Vivian? Do you think it was worth all the hype?

re: re: re: Dream Role.... What's Yours?

Mama Rose in Gypsy. I identify with her probably more than I'd care to admit. We share a driving ambition and a lot of the same insecurities. She's an amazing character, with so many different levels to her, it could never get boring. I also feel that the lives of "some people" are dreadfully dull and ultimately unproductive. I think it's a wonderful acting role, which is where my first strengths lie.

I just saw the Thoroughly Modern Millie tour on Sunday, actually, and I enjoyed it very much. Darcie is very talented, and I was also very impressed with Diana Kaarina (Miss Dorothy) and Hollis Resnik (Mrs. Meers) and their Muzzy is fantastic. Overall, it is a well put together production and definitely worth seeing.

Men:John Barrowman- gorgeous inside and out.Hugh Jackman- *drools*John Dossett- He's just so cute!!!Women:Bernadette Peters- I think she's stunning, especially at her age. I hope I look that good when I'm 55.Bianca Marroquin- She's so sweet and adorable!Kristin Chenoweth- I think she has a very classic beauty. Something straight out of the fifties.

The only thing I've ever heard of it is "The Gentleman is a Dope" off of Bernadette Peters' Rodgers and Hammerstein CD. But if the rest of the score is like that song, I'd gladly pay the money to see in Broadway.

My dream role is to play Mama Rose on Broadway. I love the fact that the book is fully developed and absoutely fantastic. I love all the material given to Rose's character. I think that, with this role, I could keep delving deeper and deeper into it and go on performing it for years, if my voice could hold up, that is. I really identify with her desire to be a star, with her total and utter desparation and that one unfulfilled dream that haunts her. We're more alike than I'd care to admit.

re: re: Best Act 1 finales

Jan 28, 2004 — 11:35:49 PM

Sunday in the Park With George's Act 1 finale completely took me by surprise. It sent chills down my spine. It's almost like it should have been obvious, but to actually see it and then see the painting...Gypsy's "Everything's Coming Up Roses" is absolutely frightening and a wonderful place to put intermission. Nobody's going to leave during intermission with that as a cliff hanger. (Unless of course, the production is awful.)
