#1Marvelous Wonderettes: Cheap Tickets?
Posted: 9/21/08 at 10:41pmHey, I've heard great things about this show. Anyone seen it yet? I'm excited to check it out, but they tickets are like $75, which is a bit much for me to spend. Does anyone know if they do student rush, or anything like that? I guess I could always try TKTS. Also, exactly where is the theater located? Is it hard to get to from Times Square?

It's a really great show! Lot's of fun :)
I don't think I'd pay 75 dollars for it though.

The theatre is on West 43 between 9th & 10th Avenues

So it's not too far, if my memory serves me right. Just take a subway?
And TheaterFreak, where'd you get your tickets?

HBB, I'm going on Friday too!
On my way home from Flea Market I met a couple at the train station who were holding playbills from the show. So I approached them and asked what they thought. They adored it and said that they'd be going back.

"So it's not too far, if my memory serves me right. Just take a subway?"
Heck, if the weather's not bad I wouldn't even bother with a subway. I almost always walk and if you're coming from Times Square it's not far at all.

Posted: 9/22/08 at 12:40amYeah, I agree. I'm not opposed to walking at all, just didn't know if at night - like after the show - it might be easier to take a subway back home.

Posted: 9/22/08 at 9:55amIf you catch the E, A or C to 42nd Street it's literally one block away. I saw it, not my kind of thing, but the cast is wonderful and you should have a good time.

Posted: 9/22/08 at 1:31pmYeah, the A/C/E to 42nd St. is going to get you as close to the theatre as you can get without walking. But without knowing what area of the city you live in, it's hard to suggest which subway to take home.

Posted: 9/22/08 at 3:17pmThere were a lot of people at the flea market yesterday trying to trade or get rid of Wonderette tickets -- not sure how you would contact any of them, but if you're somehow able to, I bet they would cheaply sell them to you.

Posted: 9/27/08 at 12:24amI saw the show tonight (thanks for the discount link), and I loved it. I wasn't sure going into it if it'd be my cup of tea, and honestly, it's not, but I found the show to be very entertaining. All the actresses could sing the sh*t out of the show, and were pretty great actresses as well. I loved listening to them sing, and the story weaved throughout the songs was actually quite entertaining and touching. It's odd how attached you to get to a character in such a short amount of time. But I totally recommend this show. The details in the set, and the production, are amazing. The set has so much to it, I loved just looking at it, and it spills over into the house and the lobby, and the usher's uniforms. It was an expertly produced little musical, and I love the Westside Theater - so much histroy, and a nice cozy little theater.

This is the review I am putting in my blog:

The Wonderettes Keep The Westside Rockin'
On Friday, August 29th, New York City got a wonderful addition Off Broadway. This new addition comes in the form of a musical called "The Marvelous Wonderettes" which is now taking place 8 times a week at the Westside Theatre. Featuring songs from the 50's and 60's, this show is a blast from the past that had the audience laughing throughout and singing along with the songs in their heads.
The Westside Theatre did a great job setting the mood by playing 50's music in the lobby before the show started, and also in the theatre during intermission. As a matter of fact, many people in the audience used intermission to let out the energy they had been holding inside during the first act. It was hard not to smile when you turned around to find numerous people standing up and dancing together.
"The Marvelous Wonderettes" stars Farah Alvin (Missy), Beth Malone (Betty Jean), Bets Malone (Suzy), and Victoria Matlock (Cindy Lou) who play four high school girls who have hopes and dreams and are infatuated with the idea of falling in love. They are all excellent singers and each character has their own little quirks that keep the audience entertained. The show features many songs that you will recognize such as "Lollipop," "All I Have To Do Is Dream," "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song), and many more. Beth Malone and Bets Malone were the two standout actresses and did a fantastic job playing their characters.
The first act takes place at their prom in 1958, and the second act takes place at their 10 year high school reunion in 1968 where the Marvelous Wonderettes reunite and perform for the first time in 10 years. We see the changes they went through over that time and find out how they have changed and how they have stayed the same. As a side note, I was not aware before the performance that I would be making my Off Broadway debut tonight as Missy's love interest, Mr. Lee. I was called on stage once during each act, and yes, I was quite embarrassed! But it was hard not to enjoy all four ladies singing to me.
You will have a great time at the show and judging by the crowd's reaction tonight (the woman in front of me had already seen it six times in a month), you will want to mark this one on your list of shows to see.
