Kelly: Now on Broadway at the American Airlines Theatre.
Mary-Louise: Buckle up.

I missed it.

Posted: 1/30/09 at 10:15amShe looked fantastic, and it seemed like she was making an effort to be convivial, which doesn't seem to come naturally to her.

She had 2 segments. Kelly was surprised that this was her first time on LIVE WITH REGIS & KELLY. Kelly stated she felt like she already met her before and Mary-Louise corrected her by stating that they have met -- in a park with their kids.
Mary-Louise talked about due to her character on WEEDS, people assume she's in-the-know and ask her where they can get good weed, especially when she's with her kids. She admitted to being 'really square'.
She also talked about her theater background and how she always loves to go back to theater as its her roots. She admitted to being addicted to it, like other actors who come from a theater background.
Kelly asked her if she's ever had any onstage mishaps during HEDDA GABLER and Mary-Louise told a cute story about catching on fire and not being aware that the burning smell she was smelling was actually her. Seems her dress caught fire from one of the many candles on stage. An audience member told her later that he was seconds away from jumping on stage to put it out.
I found it amusing that when Kelly asked her until when is HEDDA GABLER running thru, Mary-Louise didn't have any idea: "... end of March, I think?"
There you have it in a nutshell.

Thanks for posting it.
Why does it seem like Regis is never on Regis & Kelly anymore?

Posted: 2/1/09 at 3:36amDoes it appear that this production can overcome its early bad buzz (i.e. Parker)? From what I've read, Parker (though enormously talented) is one piece of work. People talk about Patti LuPone being a virago, but Mary Louise Parker seems have an especially nasty reputation (kind of like the anti-Angela Lansbury). How is she with the fans at the stage door? from RC in Austin, Texas

^Hah yeah, if she does stage door, I'm a little hesitant to meet her because I don't want to ruin my love for her haha. I can imagine her not being friendly/patient at all at the SD.
Also, I kind of love how it's apparent that there are SO many other things she'd be doing than talking to Kelly Ripa. And who can blame her lol.

Posted: 2/1/09 at 7:12amI waited at the stage door with a friend after RECKLESS a few years ago and Mary-Louise could not have been kinder. She chatted with us for a few minutes, signed our Playbills, signed my friend's Fried Green Tomatoes DVD, and took a photo with my friend. She was very modest and friendly.

Contractually, Regis stopped doing Friday shows for several years now. Anderson Cooper, Bryant Gumbel, Sam Champion and Neil Patrick Harris are the semi-regular co-hosts for Kelly on Fridays.

Agreed. Not only was she modest and friendly, she even withstood cringe-worthy comments with a graceful "Thank you" or a forced smile. No less then four people just gushed "You're amazing!" (I mean, seriously, what is an actress supposed to say to that?); a man I would've thought was a hobo if he wasn't holding a Playbill started rambling about how the ushers mistreated him and weren't helpful in the theatre, and she actually acted like she was concerned and said "I'm so sorry -- I don't have control of what's going on in the theater when I'm on stage..." ; Someone asked her if she wanted to get high later and she gave a half smile/laugh before running into her car.
Honestly, I thought she went above and beyond what needed to be done, so the experience actually made me like her more. If the stage door experience is akin to that every night, it can't be fun for her.

I do hope these stories about Mary-Louise Parker's personality aren't true since I like her a lot as an actress.
Anyone else have antying nice to say about her?

Posted: 2/1/09 at 1:53pmTruthfully, I didn't think she was all that nice when I met her. She supposedly had the flu so I don't know if that night is how I should categorize her as a person, but she wasn't that pleasant. I'm going to try and go back and see if I have a different experience.

Re: the video - She is so odd. I love her.
As for the rest of the discussion, I met her at the stage door when I saw Reckless. She wasn't overly friendly and seemed slightly aloof and/or shy, but she was still perfectly kind. (And so patient with my inability to form a sentence.) I was a complete tongue-tied idiot and she was very nice to me.

I think this is the best interview I've seen with her (skip ahead to about 31 minutes in).

MrMidwest, thanks, that is a good interview.
About the Regis & Kelly interview: I loved her "Buckle up." And Alan Rickman jumping onstage and putting out the fire would have made the play a lot more entertaining.
