Posted: 7/21/06 at 12:34amI don't know who has the right to the stage version, but doesn't Diseny has the right? That's why Mackintosh had to team up with is Disney and use some of the songs? He is a big producer so if he could, he would have produced the show by himself, but I thought he had to team up with Disney. Plus when he got okay from the author, it took years and she even said she didn't want to use the songs from the film.

P.L. Travers, the author, was very unhappy with the Disneyfied version of her characters & story. part of what i think is so brilliant about this show is that they've made peace between P.L. Travers's vision of Mary Poppins & Disney's.
as much as i love the Julie Andrews version, she is not *anything* like the original character (except maybe that one shot where she admires herself in the mirror), & i am deeply in love with the characters & darker themes found in the books.
