Mary Poppins Australian Cast Recording gets U.S. release on April 5, 2011

For the first time since 2005 an English Cast Recording of "Mary Poppins" will be released. The Australian Cast Recording will be released on February 18, 2011. This recording will give people the chance to take listen to a permanent record of the show as it has evolved since the Original London Cast Recording from 2005. Much work has been done on the musical score since 2005, first on Broadway, then on the US Tour, and some final tweaks in rehearsal in Australia. This includes the premiere recording of the new song, "Playing The Game", which was put into the show in the US and is now in all productions worldwide.

The Australian cast stars Verity Hunt-Ballard in the title role and Matt Lee as Bert. The cast also features Philip Quast as George Banks, Marina Prior as Winifred Banks, Debra Byrne as Bird Woman, and Judi Connelli as Miss Andrew.

Aww! This made my day too. I love the score and I can't wait to hear it. I'm glad "Playing the Game" will finally get recorded in English. Hopefully they record some other little bits and pieces of the score that didn't make it onto the London cast recording.

Aww that sucks. I got excited when I saw "Precision and Order" listed. It should be included since Philip Quast is playing Mr. Banks. And they definitely should have included the opening of act two. "Run Away" isn't even the real entr'acte. Oh, well. At least we get "Playing the Game".

So we still only have the reprise of A Man Has Dreams?

What was the point of re-recording this if they still are cutting out a big chunk of the score?

^ "A Man Has Dreams" would have been great. I don't really understand why they chose to emulate the London cast recording. If they recorded it live they probably recorded the whole show. Why not include as much music as you can? I don't get it.

So excited that they are making a recording of this terrific cast! They were wonderful to watch live, particularly Verity Hunt-Ballard, Philip Quast and Marina Prior.

When where the last Australian Cast Recordings of an international show made where either US or UK Cast Albums already exist? (Not refering to stuff like Priscilla, Boy from Oz which originated here). I can think of the Sound of Music and Wizard of Oz from like 10 years ago (but they where live recordings bleh). Anybody know of Studio recordings. Do we have to go all the way back to the BaTB or Secret Garden recordings?

I'm hopeing they put out a new LND one with the changes.

What confuses me is that this cast warranted an album, but the New York cast didn't.

I think it is happening mainly because of changes that happened after it opened in NYC. when I saw it in NYC they still did Temper Temper and it was a while after it opened. Chances are if they never changed that song there probably wont be a new recorging.

It's nice to get a new recording, but the inclusion of Playing the Game isn't worth spending the money for me. I found the song rather dull and it really didn't make much sense in the plot. Temper Temper may have been a bit scary (no scarier than the other nanny, if you ask me), but it fit the story and the lesson it taught was more clear and valuable. Treat your toys well and they won't attack you at night. That's effective!

Cam Mac loves Quast and Byrne (hence including them in the international Les Mis recording).
I wish it was not live but I am thrilled to have another Australian Cast recording.

Does anyone know if it's supposed to be sold on iTunes? If it is, then it's gonna take FOREVER for them to release it just like they did with Les Miz's Tour album and Legally Blonde's London Cast album. :P I hate waiting. Anyways...WHEN'S THE SPIDER-MAN CD COMING OUT?!?!?!?!? I hear that Bono and The Edge will sing all of the parts on the cd AND play the instruments too!!!!
