If I remember reading correctly, Cameron wanted to do away with Temper Temper because he thought that it would be too scary for the kids. Keep in mind that that was one of the reasons why this show was billed as as not a a kids musical in london but one for the grown ups.
They were going to try to use another song in place of it in Chicago, and if that worked out well they were going to use the new song "Playing The Game" in place of Temper Temper on Broadway and in all upcoming international productions he has planed for Poppins.

I don't think Cameron is really going to care what we think on this board, and he will replace Temper Temper on Broadway pretty soon. Sadly, I like everyone else here think Temper Temper added a darkness to an otherwise rather fluffy show. Sad to see it go

I saw the show for the first time last month and while I can understand "Temper, Temper" being a bit scary for the kids, it needs to be in order to force the change in the Banks children. I can't see that growth without that jolt.
What is the tone of "Playing the Game?" Lighter, I'm assuming, but does it try and convey the same message?

Posted: 3/16/09 at 2:15pmAs I stated earlier, I haven't seen any other prodcution of Mary Poppins besides Chicago, so I don't know how Temper, Temper differs from Playing the Game, but it is the darkest point of the show and it does create a change in the kids. I just found the song to be rather borning.

Posted: 3/28/09 at 11:35amyouk onw what I lways thought would be an interesting idea? If they still used the song "Temper, Temper", but had Mary stayin the room with the children, and then brings the dolls to life. I could easily see her woven into the song, having her be the first witness, or even the judge, though I love the freaky clown judge. I could certainly see it being less dark with Mary there, and it further amplifies the point that it's a lesson, and not a scary nightmare.
