Just got the CD -- and am curious -- what in the WORLD is going on during the "Temper Temper" song??? It's so strange - but I like it. I also love "Being Mrs. Banks" -- too bad it's not it's own track...
i have one too lol.... what the hell is mary doing when she does that AWFULLY off pitch AhhhhAHHHHHH during fly a kite? it sounds like she got shot..... otherwise the cd is amazing and i cant wait!

The show is a blast. Everyone claps along to the score, the cast dances the hell out 'Step in Time' (some of the most vibrant choreography i've seen in years), the sets are terrific and Laura Michelle Kelly is indeed brillant. Pray that Broadway doesn't screw it up.
TEMPER, TEMPER is another lesson that Mary Poppins is teaching Jane and Michael indirectly. After the children fight and tear Valentine's arm, they're put on trial by the very toys they have and are fighting over.
The "off key" notes that you're referring to during LETS GO FLY A KITE are when Mary Poppins Comes Back (Had to say it!) at the head of ACT II. She appears at the end of Jane and Michael's kite string, floating in the air.
And yes, STEP IN TIME is brilliant. Bert dancing on the wall of the proscenium and then upside down...*gasp*.
I say pray that Broadway fixes it. Get rid of that lousy Mr. Banks number and put in The Life I Lead. Give Mrs. Banks something to do, other than look depressed. Give the Banks' home and the set some cheer and color, once Mary comes into their lives; not more dred and darkness. I just hate this show. Don't understand what anyone sees in it.
ConvinceMe2, I'm not going to try to convince you on how good the show is - we all have our own opinions, and if you don't like it then that's fine, but I personally feel you are missing out on something, as I thought it was an awesome musical. Those notes in Let's Go Fly A Kite are always bad in the live performances - I saw one of the first performances in London, and she originally just sang an octave leap, which was perfectly in tune, and sounded great - I don't know why she/they changed it. Sounds terrible, in my opinion. Temper, Temper sounds crass on the CD, but in the performance it's a great number, and gives Mary Poppins a much darker side to her character. Being Mrs Banks is a beautiful song, and allows Linzi Hateley to show off her stunning voice - it's a very sad moment in the show, and I always shed a little tear (I'm a loser, I know!) I don't think Broadway will ruin this show - as I've said before, Cameron knows what he's doing.
Add me to the fans of this fantastic show ! I am not a very big fan of the film but the show absolutely won me over ! The Cast Recording is great, but seeing it live is way much better ! Just be sure to see it as soon as it opens on Broadway, because after a while, it's gonna be impossible to find a ticket !
Temper temper is a really good number i reckon. Especially poppy tierney's (mary p's understudy) solo. she is amazing, better than LMK in my opinion. i agree with practiaclly p, linzi hately has a gorgeous voice. met her at the stage door the other night, she's really lovely as well. mr banks is a bit lame but it reminds of the henry higgins character in my fair flange lady. its def the best show in the west end, tied with chitty. her entry in lets go fry a kite is a shoker and it is no better on the cd but on the whole it is a great song. butt
I am currently convinced that Matthew Bourne (the choreographer of the show) can do no wrong. I haven't seen the show, but I'm greatly looking forward to seeing it, assuming that it moves to Broadway (which I think it's planning to do).
supercalifragilisticexpialidocious was actually choreographed by both - the spelling of the letters was done by Stephen Mear, but Matthew Bourne did everything else, and worked with Stephen on the letters to fit them into a dance, rather than just have small hand movements to represent each individual letter. The movement of the actors throughout the number was done by Matthew Bourne - detail was done by Stephen Mear.
PP how could you convince me? I saw the show. I hated the show. There isn't anything you could possibly say about it. I sure wish I hadn't hated it. Cost an awful lot to be disappointed.
Ah ok. Had you seen an early preview or the Bristol run, I would have said you should try and see it again next time you're in London as it's quite different.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.
It wasn't great in Bristol, I'll admit that. But London breathed new life into it, and the production is excellent now, but it can't appeal to everyone.
I agree practically p, the kids are amazing too. far better than in chitty. the principals are so good too, the energy level is serously high. it had really good reviews in bristol, my boyfriend's boyfriend went to see it and raved about it. x
