I just called Ticketmaster on the off-chance that they might have tickets for tonight over the phone and the girl I spoke to said 'They don't even have a performance tonight, try back tomorrow'.
So if people are hoping for tickets to opening night tonight, Ticketmaster might not be your best bet
So what is our best bet? I've been checking ticketmaster all day yesterday and even as soon as I woke up this morning, but nothing has gone on sale for tonight's show. So sad...I really wanted to be there. I guess Disney found 1800 people that they comped to fill the house tonight.
i can't imagine they'd comp the entire New Am - it's huge! i'm gonna pop into the box office as soon as i can and see if they have tickets for tonight, by any chance...although i'd say keep checking ticketmaster online throughout the day...something might sneak on there.
you can also try craigslist too...there might be something there, although it'll probably be expensive...
Your best bet is to just show up at the box office. It's always the best bet...you can't rely on Telecharge or Ticketmaster (particularly the latter) for anything last minute like that. The box office will always have more information.
I may walk over there right now...
And even if you go now and they say they have nothing, it might be wise to stop by again closer to curtain time. If they have even ONE cancellation or unsold ticket, you'd probably get it.
Unless, of course, they would rather have some empty seats than sell tickets to the public. I wouldn't put that past Disney.
i'm so bummed that tickets haven't been released to the public...the new amsterdam is HUGE and i can't imagine they comp-filled every single seat...i got a ticket to a chorus line on opening night and that theatre is 1/3 the size.
sorry to vent, just bummed i probably won't get to go
I would just go back to the theatre closer to show time. You never know.
Well, Disney is a HUGE corporation. I wouldn't be surprised if they sent a ticket to every semi-important employee they have across the country. The cast is large, they will all have people there. The usual Broadway openers will be there, and probably people who were in or involved with the London production. I wouldn't underestimate the amount of people Disney has in on this thing. I think they could EASILY fill that theatre.
maybe you're right, who knows...
i just feel like if disney were smart, they would keep even the last two or three rows of the balcony open because i guarantee you if they release those few to the public, they'd be bought within minutes. more money for disney...
oh well, we'll see...maybe i'll take a train over there around 4:30 or 5...
I wouldn't be surprised if they are selling the balcony tickets at the box office only.
I would find it surprising if Disney gave away the nosebleed seats to it's opening guests.
Just got back from the box office. The entire performance tonight is invite only. They are not selling any tickets to the general public. There will not be a cancellation line. Hard to believe, but yes, Disney has apparently comped the entire New Amsterdam for tonight.
They have already set up tons of barricades and a tent (in case in rains I guess) for all the celebrities who are showing up tonight. It is probably going to be the event of the year...too bad none of the general public will be able to experience it.
for anyone who cares, i just called the new amsterdam box office three times, and spoke to a different person each time. i asked if they were selling tickets for tonight at the box office and each one of them said no. then i asked about showing up closer to show time and they also said no.
so...it looks like it might be a lost cause...
well...i hope pictures and reviews are posted tomorrow!
It's not just Disney, it's Cam too. I'm sure there was limited seating to this if anything.

You all shouldn't have gotten your hopes up.
why not? i have attended several other opening night performances, whose public tickets were released the morning of the performance. i just figured maybe, since the new am is so massive, that they might save a few nosebleeds seats for us common folk

What type of message does it send when Disney's Mary Poppins can't fill the theater on opening night? I'm sure they would pass out free tickets at acting schools in NYC before they would make tickets available on Ticketmaster.

It opens tonight? I had no idea... you know why I had no idea? The Mary Poppins BWW logo is missing!
If THREE DAYS OF RAIN sold some opening night tickets to the general public in an 1100 seat theater, I figured that there would at least be a few seats sold to the general public in an 1800 seat theater. Clearly Disney and Cameron Mackintosh have more friends than Julia Roberts.

All the seats are probably not comped. Cast members pay for their seats, especially the lower on the totem pole you go. And those seats are probably up in the attic.
If you really really want to try and see this baby tonight, get to the theatre about an hour beforehand and just hang out. Let it be known that you are looking for a ticket. Make no mistake, this will be a long shot. If you are able to score a seat it will be in a private transaction. The seats may be spoken for and divvied up, but someone in a group may be a no-show at the last minute.
[My soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend cancelled an opening night ticket at the last minute and it was my only Broadway opening ever. I burned him at the stake, and I lit the fire with my tongue. I was seriously pissed off. But I digress...]
And dress nicely for God's sake. I mean, what if you actually get in?
If you don't have a ticket 10 minutes before curtain, go see something else.
Is that the reason for the "soon to be ex"?
Honestly, I may do that tonight. I wore my nice grey suit today in anticipation of going to opening night. Even if I don't get in, it might be cool to see all the celebrities walk in. Oh how I wish I had a Disney connection right now...

I've got the Disney connection, and I don't even wanna go. Too bad....though there's probably no way I'd get tickets, even with the person I know.
