Matilda Rush vs Lottery?

Has anyone successfully done both, since they switched to an online lottery? Thoughts on which method gives better seats? Does anyone know whether rush tickets are usually available later in the day, after losing the lottery? Is rush easy to get?

Any information would be appreciated! Thanks everyone.

Matilda Rush vs Lottery?

I haven't done it for a while..though I did ask when the program changed to on-line. I was told at the box office that if there is a choice, they will generally give the better seats to the lottery winners . The lottery seats are usually where the in person lottery seats used to be- which was primarily on the far sides of the orchestra.

The rush tickets are more random and can be anywhere in the house.

That said, these "rules" are more likely to be in effect on a day when it's sold out or close to sold out. If there are a lot of empty seats, you might get better seats no matter how you get the discount tickets.

Like all on-line lotteries, it seems harder to win than the in person lottery days - when the amount of people signing up daily were far less.

The online lottery I've tried a couple times and have not won but it just depends on the day and your luck. Rush I think is your best option to know your getting tickets. I've sat all over the house when I did rush, but they are still good. I've gotten row L, H, And C orchestra. I'm not sure how it will be now that it is getting nicer out but if you get there maybe an hour and a half before the box office opens you'll get a pretty good spot (one time I arrived that time and was first). that said with he weather and the closing it might be more people. I went over winter break one time and they were very strict to the 20 tickets for rush cuz they were almost sold out I wasn't one of the people to get the tickets but I did get standing room for that show. Just as a heads up though they still haven't changed it on the website but now both rush and lottery are $32.

I won the lottery one the first day they had it. Never got the notification I won until 3:30pm. I ended up buying a rush ticket instead. That was up in the balcony. Last time I tried rush which was about a month ago all were gone by the time I got there which was 2hrs before curtain. It was a matinee.

Yeah most of the time they only sell rush in the morning. Sometimes they give some cheap last minute tickets, but the box office did tell my friend they don't sell rush tickets after the box office opens and everyone in line gets tickets.

^I've gotten a rush ticket about 10 minutes before curtain already. Depends on how it sold that day or the size of the crowd.
