so I'm watching a video clip of Matt Bogart and Simone in AIDA on the TODAY show from 2001, I believe... anyways... i'm wondering what your thought are of Matt Bogart... he has some really odd voice that I can't really describe... i used to hate it... but now i'm oddly drawn to it... it sounds different and it definitely doesn't match his body image... but i do like it... anyone else?
and while we're at it... i absolutely loved Simone when i saw her on the tour of AIDA... what did you all think of her AIDA? and to be in a gossip mood... i heard she didn't get along with the cast... was that true? much thanks

Matt is a wonderful singer and an excellent stage actor with a wonderful sense of comedy as well. I've seen him in several productions and he is always in the moment and in top form. He was outstanding as Billy Bigelow in the Paper Mill production of CAROUSEL, as one immediately comes to mind.
Matt should be seen and heard much, much more oten.

1) He is too hot for words.
2) I saw him in People Like Us (twice) and thought he, and Pamela, were great. I find nothing 'odd' w/ his voice.

I kind of agree. I don't dislike his voice, it just takes some getting used. I've enjoyed Matt in many shows (particularly Miss Saigon), but Radames was not the right role for him.
Simone had a wonderful voice, but couldn't act the role at all. Plus she looked old enough to be Radames' mother.
There were some problems backstage between her and another cast member, but I wouldn't deem that entirely her fault, after all "it takes two to tango"...

Posted: 10/18/05 at 10:36amMatt Bogart is a pretty boy who gets cast in roles that he doesn't have the acting chops to support. I have seen him in Aida on Broadway, and in 110 in the Shade and Camelot in DC. He has one facial expression, and plays the every character in every show the same...and don't even get me started on his "french" accent in Camelot. He gets good reviews, but they all tend to focus on his looks, and don't make much notice of his talent or lack there of.

I've been in a few shows with Matt Bogart, and just directed him in an indie feature film. The guy is the real deal, a generous actor, extremely thoughtful about his work, but also about the show as a whole. He's a great actor, capable of a lot more than he gets credit for. And, he's a super cool guy.
Listen, here's one story about Matt Bogart. He was by far the biggest name in my movie. He's been a lead in a number of Broadway shows. He's originated roles in a bunch of new shows, has worked with giants of the theater, including some guy named Sondheim. At one point in time, I could walk out of my building on Times Square and see two different billboards featuring Matt Bogart in the busiest intersection in the world. On the first day of shooting this movie, our sound guy had to run out for something, and we were short a boom operator. When I yelled out to see if someone could help out, I turned around and Matt already had his hand on the boom pole. So, for those of you that like him, you couldn't be supporting a nicer guy.
And, if you're interested, you can see him in the trailer:

In my humble opinion, he gave a really kick**s performance.

I agree. Having spent a bit of time with him via a fairly recent interview, prior to that at the Walnut St. theater and again some down time during rehearsals in Philly, I was impressed with him as a "regular" guy, on the quiet side, even a bit shy at times. More importantly, he can really rise to the occassion onstage, very versatile and seemingly really knows the business and where he sees himself.
Some roles are better for him than others, but Matt comes from a long line of creative Bogarts brothers.
