Just saw this guy. What a fantastic actor and singer. The best Mark ever IMO. And hot as hell too. What can Team BWW tell me about him? Any pics?

He used to date/is dating either Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen. I saw it on their E! True Hollywood Story.
He's even cuter when he walks right by you on the street.

Umm... I saw him in March. I was actually very underwhelmed. I really disliked his voice and his acting- although many times it was pretty funny. His voice just irked me for some reason.
I liked him. He was my first Mark back in 2002, so I have a bit of a love affair with him as Mark.

I saw him tonight. He was good, not my favorite though.
His a really good mark, i'd say second to anthony rapp.

He's dating an Olsen Twin?
His acoustic CD is quirky. I like it. His voice is plaintive and searching and soulful.

Last i heard he was dating Caren(i forget her last name) who's also in rent.
the one you are thinking of is Matt Kaplan with a K. He is the one who dated or is dating Ashley Olsen.
I thought he was dating Karen Olivio from Brooklyn.
I wasn't a fan of his. He has presence and a good voice, but it seemed to me he had no sense of the character Mark at all.

Matt Caplan is crappy with a capital C.

Umm.. I think he was in it before then, but he rejoined the cast as Mark in March after Drew Lachey left.
Matt Caplan in RENT is NOT the same person who dated one of the Olsen twins.
And I really can't stand his portrayal of Mark - he's goofing off up there, and it's a complete insult to the material. It's a shame, because he has a very nice voice.
Matt Caplan is dating Karen Olivio who used to be in Brooklyn
he's been with RENT since I wanna say 99 with the Benny Tour and then joined broadway right before Joey Fatone came on, then Joey was on then Matt Took over after Joey left and was there until Drew came on and is now back.
he's a good Mark, he was better back in the earlier days, now he seems bored with the role, but he's still awesome. His Tango Maureen is my favorite!
I really think he's second only to Anthony.
Well, I never thought that day will come, but I disagree with emcee
!!! I think he is fantastic !!!! His Tango Maureen and La Vie Boheme are to die for ! And after seeing Drew last year, who did nothing for me, my appreciation for him grew even more !!!
lol, GMF! I think he has every bit of ability to be fantastic and how great he is depends a lot on the day, and hence his mood. He's been with the show altogether too long, and he's bored. The night I saw him, I was so excited to finally be seeing THE Matt Caplan, and I was disappointed. He spent more time trying to make the audience laugh with non-scripted, out-of-character antics than he did playing Mark. I couldn't feel anything for Mark when the time came, because Matt played him like such a goofy jerk.

I was told that I saw Matt Caplan in the pre-goofing off days. I loved him! It's a shame that he's gotten disillusioned.
Yeah, I saw him last night too, and while I absolutely loved his voice, I did notice he was goofing around (but I thought it was funny, and enhanced the character). I'm glad he's not dating an Olsen though. His diction was a little suspect, particularly in 'What You Own' ("...at the end of the millmmhmsmsm"), but I liked him and he was fairly Rapp-ish. Not that we should compare but having listened to the CD countless times, I have some kind of reference point inscribed into my brain.

My *exact* opinion of him too.
I really like him as Mark. He tried to do something different with the part, not just copy Anthony Rapp. He made me see the show in a whole new way. With Matt Caplan's take on Mark, the show becomes about these two very vain, self-centered people who gradually learn how to connect with others and feel again. Maybe not what was originally intended, but very interesting.
Anthony Rapp's performance is so definitive, that the only way for anyone else to play Mark successfully is to try and make the part their own. I think Matt Caplan does that. Good for him.
That's really interesting, Teeny Todd. I never thought of it that way, and I can definitely see at least some of what you're saying. But (and maybe this is a result of who else I've seen play Mark) I've never seen him as self-centered. And, honestly, I don't know that self-centered really *works* for who Mark appears to be written to be. I mean, certainly learning to connect with others again is a valid theme, I guess... but he cares and is worried about Roger right from the start. I don't think that's self-centered. I think that Matt might play him *too* self-centered, but that a happy medium between that and the "definitive" way might be interesting as well.
