May 31 officially declared "Megan Hilty Day" (and concert review)

In Washington state, both Redmond (where Megan went to school) and Bellevue (where she grew up) have officially declared May 31 Megan Hilty Day. I was at her reunion concert tonight and they announced it at the end of the night. She did a really great set. Here's her set with a little mini-review if you're interested...

1.What a Night This is Going To Be/All of My Laughter - great opener. I didn't know she was such a belter
2. Popular - great. Just great. She IS Glinda. She did the hair toss bit also. Very funny.
3. Quando Men Vo - dedicated to her first voice teacher who was there.
4. Poor Sweet Baby (from Snoopy) - I've never heard the song, and it's actually really great. Nothing spectacular, but just a great delivery.
5. Alto's Lament - One of the best songs of the night. She acted it pretty damn well. Her last note was classic.
6. Golden Boy - In this section of the show she talked about her first love who she met during her years off between high school and college in Oregon.
7. Mean to Me (from Ain't Misbehavin') - The most touching song of the evening. She prefaced it with the story of how she and her first love grew apart and she started to tear up during the explanation of the song. As far as the song goes, she sang it so well. She never tried to push too hard for the belts and gave it her own distinct take.
8. Migratory V - Not very familiar with the song, but it was beautiful. Short and sweet.
9. The Boy From - Best song of the evening. By Mary Rodgers and Esteban RioNido (Stephen Sondheim). I've only heard Faith Prince sing it on her Joe's Pub CD, and Megan's rendition blew hers out of the water. It was a riot.
10. If I Didn't Know Now - A song cut from Cafe Puttanesca, the last show she did before Wicked. Great song.
Encore. Haven't heard it before. Something about Will You Still Love Me. She never introduced it.

I wish I could have been there, but alas California always keeps me away from opportunities like this. I'm so jealous of those who did.
Megan has such a great range. She is able to sing such different music! She is able to go from Opera to belting her heart out in an instant and still manage to sound phenomenal!
What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!

The choice may have been mistaken, The choosing was not...

Your review was wonderful! Just a note: Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow - - has been recorded by 15 or 20 people, but none as memorably as Roberta Flack... and now, Megan Hilty. Roberta did it at a faster pace - more of a pop song beat. Megan did it as a ballad.

Were you at the show? Thanks for the info on the song. My friend who was at the show with me also said that it was a pop standard.

ok - who is she ?
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

Megan Hilty is the current Glinda standby in Wicked, and she will be taking over the role on May 31 along with Ben Vereen as the Wizard.
