ALTAR BOYZ
At Birdland
Monday, June 20th @ 10pm
Jim Caruso’s Cast Party will celebrate the Off-Broadway hit ALTAR BOYZ at Birdland (315 West 44th Street) on Monday, June 20th at 10pm. The cast of the critically acclaimed musical comedy about a struggling Christian boy-band (along with one nice Jewish boy) will perform a song or two from the show accompanied by the composers (Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker). Each cast member might also favor Cast Party revelers with an impromptu song of his own choosing, in the tradition of the weekly event where performers entertain each other at the piano! Piper-Heidsieck champagne will be the beverage on ice for the boys, if they choose to imbibe in the devil’s brew.
Jim Caruso’s Cast Party has become a New York tradition in it’s three year existence, hosted by Caruso, along with Billy Stritch and Steve Doyle on piano and bass. Other Broadway luminaries who have joined the party have been Liza Minnelli, Josh Groban, Tommy Tune, Donna McKechnie, Mario Cantone, Brent Barrett, Alan Cumming, Christopher Sieber, Billy Porter, Hunter Foster, Lauren Bacall, John Tartaglia, Linda Lavin, Raul Esparza, Kathy Najimy, Alice Ripley, Michael Feinstein, Christine Ebersole, composers Adam Guettel, Jason Robert Brown, Andrew Lippa, Stephen Schwartz, Betty Comden, Jeff Marx & Bobby Lopez. Cast Party is open to the public, and takes place at Birdland (315 West 44th Street, NYC) every Monday night at 10pm. There is no cover charge, and a $10 food/drink minimum. Dinner is served until 1am. Reservations may be made by calling 212-581-3080.

okay so, i'm so there. come and meet the Boyz!! also monday night, they will probably have their usual CD signing post-show. Monday's also a rush night so go see the show everyone! i MAY be there if i can pull $21 out of my...
so this is as good a thread as any to say: Daniel Torres is going on as Juan in matinee today! go see him!!

thank you Lyn for alerting me. also Jim, you were a wonderful host! i was sitting with the girls to who came to see "the Altar Boyz! oh and you too..." :p
i have a mini review:
the Boyz performed "I Believe" with Michael Patrick Walker on the piano and Scott Porter beatboxed during the song before he comes in with "Take a picture of me now!" totally something out of the ordinary! they had 4 mics and David Josefsberg had to share with Tyler Maynard. at one time during the song, David tries to take the mic from Tyler and Tyler jokingly tears the mic back and sings into it himself. lol! at the end of the song, Jim tries to hold all the mics as the Boyz leave the stage and Scott was so sweet, he tried to help place some of the mics back on the stands. Jim says to him, "oh so you do tech stuff too!" and Scott nods and goes "yeah." there was a moment after a couple of performances where Jim was having trouble with the mics and he says, "Scott where are you?" LOL!
and then it was time to give out 2 CDs and a million samplers and magnets. all the Boyz left the stage except Scott and Jim made him pick a game and Scott said "i'm thinking of a book from the bible." and whispers his choice to Jim. he then says, "here's a hint. we use it in the show." and 2 people on the opposite side of the stage yelled "Genesis!" and he goes, "I heard Genesis, that's right!" and so those two people got CDs. actually before that happened, Jim was sizing up Scott and says, "God, it's like looking at a mirror!" and everyone laughs. Jim continues, "i love your hair," and Scott returns the compliment and proceeds to ruffle Jim's hair a la Matthew & Mark in the show. lol! Jim promptly fixes it back to the way it was and Scott then busts out randomly with a song about brothers and hugs Jim's shoulder but the audience was pretty quiet and Scott goes, "no? no resemblance...?" haha! there was one flier for 2 free tickets to the show and Jim had his friend pick a game. he said, "i'm thinking of a book from the old testament." someone yells "leviticus" and that was surprisingly correct and so they got the tickets. Jim proceeded to give sampler CDs and magnets to every performer that night.
my friends and i had a great time! were some of you bww people there?

well, you know I was there cuz I was sitting with you! But you had left when Scott did this whole beatbox routine with a friend! I thought that was a highlight for sure!

Scott beatboxing...i can't believe it was actually 30 minutes after i left. i told him i would stay it if was "like 30 minutes from now" when i was saying goodnight to him and was ready to head out the door but he said he didn't know. i'm dealing with the loss by listening to the Easter Bonnet clip here: http://www.danieltorres.net/media.html and this other site i just discovered: http://www.42five.com but ahh, its not the same as live. glad you enjoyed it so much mistress!!
