There are TONS of theatres around Pittsburgh that do Equity production. All she has to do is get into one of the productions and if she's signed on, she gets her card.

oh, i see. Another thing, if you try out for a show like wicked and you are not equity but they like you, can they still sign you? thanks so much!

It's true that if you auditon for an Equity production as a non-Equity performer, they are allowed to sign you on. But it's GETTING the audition that's the problem. In ALL Equity auditions, they see the non-equity members after they see ALL the Equity members. And think of how many EQUITY members audition for shows like Wicked.

Megan got her first equity contract in Suds at Oregon Cabaret Theatre...her second equity contract was Cafe Puttanesca at City Theatre in Pittsburgh during her senior year, the third was Wicked.

She wasn't seen at an open call - it was an appointment for Glinda stanbys/replacements. You don't need to be equity to be seen by the production team's request. Side note; she was actually cast in the Little Shop tour before she was offered Wicked.

Correction - - Although Suds was an equity production and all of the principal actors were equity EXCEPT Megan, she didn't get her card until Cafe Putanesca.

Megan took a couple of years off before starting college to do community theatre in Washington (I think).
