I think she would be great as Dolly but here would be some other great ones
1.) Bernedette Peters
2.) Bette Midler( This is her role !!!)
3.) Christine Andreas
4.) Elaine Stritch
5.) Faith Prince

I agree with Bette Midler. It would be awesome. But then who will be Vandelgelder?
Stritch would be better casting for Vandergelder.
Carol Channing didn't exactly 'bomb' in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. I don't think her performance in that film had any bearing on Streisand's casting in DOLLY! Channing was never a serious contender for the movie. In fact, Elizabeth Taylor, Lucille Ball and Doris Day were all closer to the top of the studio's 'wish list'.
I agree w Wildcat, Channing didn't bomb at all...
Channing won the Best Supporting Actress GOLDEN GLOBE in 1968 for "TM MIllie" and was nominated for the Supporting Actress OSCAR.
Mullaly's too young still. It's a small role, but she'd be a killer Ernestina Money in the one Harmonia Gardens scene.
I think Megan would be great in the role. Plus, this coming season of "Will & Grace" will be the last, and I remember Megan saying once that when the show ended, she wanted to come back to NYC and do theatre.

Agreed, Megan is not too young, she just looks it, but hey, I can get over that. She is sharp and amazing! As stated above: "I'd love to see her in anything". She'd be a perfect Dolly!

Megan's already got a contract to host a talk show starting in the fall of 2006. If W&G really ends next year, she could do the talk show from New York.
MusicMan2, Carol Channing didn't bomb in Millie. What gave you that idea? Millie was a gigantic hit. The biggest film in Universal's history, at that point in time. Channing won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar. What's your definition of a bomb? There is only one reason why Carol Channing didn't play Dolly. Ernest Lehman didn't like her in Millie. Ernest Lehman was the producer of Dolly. It had nothing to do with the studio wanting Barbra. The studio assumed Carol would play it.
