Don't get confused, nothing has been announced or anything. I was just wondering--do you think she could play the role if it were revived? I think she would be perfect! Thoughts?
It doesn't matter - I'd still see it!

Certainly this would be a possibility. However, Megan is a bit too young for the role. Remember, Thornton Wilder described her as being "a woman of a certain age".
I'd hold out for Georgia Engel.
There is no way in hell that Georgia Engel is going to play the title role in a Broadway production of HELLO DOLLY. Megan Mullaly is actually four years older then Carol Channing was when she created the role.

yeah, it would be a little too much like babs doing the movie when she did. but i'd also go see MEGAN in ANYTHING!
WHAT???!!!! Mullaly is almost twice the age that Streisand was making the film.
You know what, I'd think she'd do a great job
But I'd still really want to see Bernadette give it a shot
I second Bernadette
i think either Bernadette or Megan..... i'd just love to see Mullaly on stage
well, she comes across young to me!
Can I make an official plea just to get megan back to broadway, period?
Don't really have a preference for a role just now (although I'd thought Galinda would work if she were more jazzy or belty rather than those legit sop moments - or does mullaly have those notes?) just want her back on the boards!
I love me some Megan but dont think Dolly is the part for her. If Bernadette takes on Dolly with anywhere near the caliber of amazing-ness she did with Mama Rose, her Tony will be waiting for her. If it was up to me, I'd cast Bernadette.
Megan does however, need to return to Broadway ASAP.

I actually thought Megan would be good as Glinda too. I also stand my request for her to play Cassie in a chorus line!
ooooo, cassie ... she'd be a natural head popper!
Megan would be perfect for this and as for her being too young- not really. After all Barbra was younger than Megan is now when she did the film
Megan, who I love, would have to lose 30 pounds to play Cassie in ACL. The character is also 31 according to the casting breakdown.
Megan will be doing her show, though.
OK, we have to stop with these threads...or at least start being more clear in the subject headings. How about "Wouldn't so and so be great as so and so?" That way people who have better things to do than fantasize about casting don't have to waste time looking at these things.
At least they were kind enough to put a question mark. So it's not really an imperative statement.
The thought of Bernadette Peters doing Hello, Dolly!is enough to make me puke.
How about Patti LuPone?

I second that.. Bernadette Peters as Dolly Levi is a joke. I love me some Bernie but she can barely pull off 8 shows a week these days. Plus, I think she would be terribly miscast. Also, Barbara was way too young for the movie role and she even expresses it in interviews that she knew and thought she was too young for the role but the studio wanted her too badly. Carol Channing should have made the movie but when she bombed in Thoroughly Modern Millie the movie they didn't dare cast her as Dolly Levi in Hello Dolly even though she had done the stage version for years. Megan Mullaly is a great performer and I would love to see her return to the stage. But we all already know that NBC is signing her on for a talk show after Will & Grace ends it season next spring.

I just adore Megan. She can do whatever she wants and I'm there to support. Love her, love her, lover her.
I'd love to see her as Galinda (if she has the soprano notes) but in a way, I think it'd be too easy to compare her Galinda to Karen.

Well, she was wonderful in How to Succeed, though I've only seen coughvideocough of it.

The perfect Dolly in my opinion would be Faith Prince, though she's probsably not enough of a "name" to bring in the tourists.
