Mel Brooks Musical

Posted: 6/26/04 at 12:20amSince the "Producers" did so well as a broadway show, I wonder if any of his other movies would do as well. I think "Young Frankenstein" would have a good shot. I love that movie.

Posted: 6/26/04 at 12:23amReally? that would so rock. I mean, it already has a song (where Frankenstein and the monster tap dance). AWESOME!!

SPACEBALLS THE MUSICAL!!!! YAAAAAAAAY!!!!
Sorry, I know that would completely suck, but I love that movie.
re: Mel Brooks Musical#5
Posted: 6/26/04 at 12:25amWell, I don't know if it would work......but it would be interesting. Is Mel Brooks directing the movie version of the "Producers" coming out?

Spaceballs!!!!
I love this phrase:
I'm a mog: half man, half dog. I'm my own best friend!
lol
re: Mel Brooks Musical#7
Posted: 6/26/04 at 12:27amI think he's co-directing with Susan Stroman...I could be wrong...

Posted: 6/26/04 at 7:14amMel Brooks has said that he wants Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth to star in "Frankenstein."
re: Mel Brooks Musical#13
Posted: 6/26/04 at 7:21amFunny you should say that. The first time I heard the WICKED soundtrack I thought of Ms. Kahn specifically when Ms Chenoweth laughed in THANK GOODNESS. Cheno can reproduce the Khan sound.

and everyone thinks Brad Garrett should play the monster.
May I suggest Jason Antoon, who played the barteneder in CONTACT, as Eyegor?
re: Mel Brooks Musical#15
Posted: 6/26/04 at 12:03pmMusical is in the works with Mel Brooks and Tom Meehan at the helm again. They are working on Act II now.
re: Mel Brooks Musical#16
Posted: 6/26/04 at 12:51pmI don't think I would like Matthew Broderick in the role. I mean,I know he can do humour--The Producers, Ferris Bueller's Day Off (which by the way would also make a good musical), but I do not see him as Frankenstein (or Fronkensteen). I don't know. Maybe I will always see Gene Wilder as the part, but I know he is WAY too old for the show.

And who would be me?
I mean, Marty Feldman!
re: Mel Brooks Musical#18
Posted: 6/26/04 at 1:05pmNo Brooks is not directly...just writing. Stroman is directing her first film with this movie. Due to start filming in Feb and be released late in 2005
re: Mel Brooks Musical#19
Posted: 6/26/04 at 1:07pmReally? OMG. No one can do a Mel Brooks movie but Mel Brooks. I was already dissapointed with Nicole Kidman being in it (I used to like her, but she is getting SO ANNOYING by being in every new movie).

He's talked about a number of combinations. Cheno seems the most consistent. Broderick less certain.
The first order of business is to get this thing done. Then worry about who is right for the roles. They are currently working on Act II but with the Producers movie looming, it's anyone's guest when this will be finished.
re: Mel Brooks Musical#21
Posted: 6/26/04 at 3:22pmI think Harvey Fierstein would be a good monster. I can see Roger Bart as Egor(sp?) although no one can do that part as great as Marty Feldman.

There is an interview with Brooks in the Washington Post - he just wrote a song for Frau Blucjer called "He Vas My Boyfriend!"
Who should play Blucher? I nominate Nancy Opel.
