Could she sing-talk the songs? In that clip I linked, she certainly can mimic singing. Possibly a few voices lessons with a good teacher? And was Jane Lynch all that great of a singer?

that's hilarious. but it would NEVER happen. they would never have that kind of money to put into a movie star (which she is)

I think Melissa McCarthy is a very funny actress, but she seems wrong for Hannigan. McCarthy may be in her early 40s, but she has a very youthful energy. I have a hard time seeing her as the bitter, desperate Hannigan.

I think she's a good enough actress to pull off the part and combat any "youthful energy" she might have. Her work on Gilmore Girls was consistently wonderful, that's where I first knew her from and her performance in Bridesmaids came as a total surprise to me...Gilmore Girls had comedic moments but I hadn't ever seen her do straight comedy before and didn't know of her background with the Groundlings.
