Posted: 8/17/13 at 9:24amRecently, I watched Identity Thief. I thought Melissa McCarthy would make a great Miss Hannigan in Annie. I'm sure she's too busy now to be put into the current production. So we'll have to see another production in 2016 so we can see her play the role.

Posted: 8/17/13 at 9:39amI recently spent four days on a production with Melissa. She is such a talent. I think she would be a great Miss Hannigan. I agree that she is too busy in the film industry right now, but I would love to see her on Broawdway in the future.

Posted: 8/17/13 at 10:05amThe only other thing I had seen her in was Mike & Molly. I was surprised at how well she handled the drama in Identity Thief. When she's in that fancy restaurant talking about not knowing who she was, she really displayed a dramatic side that I had never seen in her. She's not just a comic, I hope she can get recognition for being more than just funny.

Gotham, I think she did get that recognition with her breakthrough and much deserved oscar nod for Bridesmaids, in which she is not only hilarious, she's just plain luminous and handles one schmaltzy but goofy scene in which she tries to get Kristen Wiig to get on with her life beautifully.

Anything was better than Identity Thief. I felt so sorry for MM. She wasn't paid nearly enough. She lifted the material. Had it been any other actress, this movie would have gone straight to video.
It's too bad because the premise of the movie was great. But it didn't live up to its potential.

The great thing about McCarthy is she can wring laughs out of the most mediocre material (aka IDENTIFY THIEF) and then turn around and break your heart. Her performance in BRIDESMAIDS only gets better the more you watch the movie. She would make a hilarious Miss Hannigan,

Based on her SNL appearances, Diaz is a VERY talented comedian who will make an interesting Baker's Wife.
But Melissa McCarthy can literally play anything, comic or serious. She'd make a great Hannigan, but I hope she remains too big a movie star to have the time.

No, jungle, if I read correctly the suitability of Cameron Diaz to play the Baker's Wife was mentioned a few posts above. I was saying we shouldn't count Diaz out yet, not considering her SNL appearances.
And then I went on to agree that Melissa McCarthy is a brilliant actress, who can apparently do anything. She'd make a great Hannigan or Baker's Wife, but Hannigan was the topic.
I hope this makes sense now.
