For some reason, I can't get 'World, Take Me Back' out of my head lately. I completely understand why it was dropped from the show, as it is not needed to advance the story with 'Parade.' But boy it is a great song when sung with great gusto (which is how Merman tackled every song).
Same goes for 'Love, Look In My Window.' Such a beautiful, beautiful song - with an ending that Merman knocked out of the PARK!
Both are shining examples of the brilliance of Jerry Herman. The lyrics are delicious. He knew how to write for your heart.
I know where 'Love' was in the show (based on the dialogue in the middle... right before 'Parade'
. I'm curious, though...
-How did they transition into 'Parade'? Did they have to add any dialogue?
-Where did 'World' sit in the show?
I think they'll bring one of them back for Bernadette's run and drop 'Penny' for Victor. Just my opinion.
And for your listening pleasure, here's the undisputed Queen of Broadway singing both live in all her glory...
