I was wondering which recording of Merrily would you recommend the OBC or the 94 off-Broadway. Thank You

I would say '94 Off-Broadway but I'm sort of partial to it because that's how I fell in love with the show.

I've started smiling. It's not my style. But it's been highly recommended that I smile. So I've been grinning and sad to say...I think I like it.

OBC - definately

The performances are much more honest and less "musical theatery" than the '94. And the changes made to the show are not as good. Especially Rich and Happy being replaced with That Frank.

If you can only get one, I'd say get the revival. The score is tighter, the performances are better and it's the version of the show you'll see if you ever get to see it live.

Actually, I recommend the two-cd 1993 Leicester recording w/ Maria Friedman...Loves it

the "OBC" because it includes Sondheims' beautiful "the hills of tomorrow" songs which bookends the show. also, rich and happy is better than that frank, AND the overture is more complete in the OBC.

the revival is the more "complete" recording, but the OBC is the better one to have.

I must throw my support to the original, especially if the remastered version actually comes out. The performances seem superior to me, and I love having the original opening and closing.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.
