If you're in the New York area, you should go see this show. A friend of mine is in it, so I made the trip down to see it on Sunday. It was amazing...so amazing that I'm going to drive another 4 hours to see it 1 more time. I'm totally not the type to shill a production, but I just loved this show so much. It's playing tonight-Sunday at NYU.
I was actually planning on seeing it tonight -Ryan Driscoll is usually fantastic so I try to see productions that he's in :0)
And, I mean, it's Merrily!

It's 20 friggin dollars for a college production. That's how much I pay for my Bwy shows. I don't think so, NYU.
have you ever seen a show at NYU? Everything is first rate. Sound, set, TALENT, show. These kids are more professional than some broadway actors I've seen.

I just don't like that these NYUers think they can pull off charging me what I would pay on Bwy.
Not every bway show is $20. Do you only see the ones you can rush?
Broadway shows also have rich people producing them. NYU has to pay for rights, costumes, sets, etc.
and
Does it really matter if it's a Bway show or not, so long as it's a QUALITY performance?

As a student, I can only afford rush. So, yes, I only see a show if it has rush tickets.
And I don't see where NYU gets off charging $20!! Other NY universities produce extremely high quality shows and charge at most $10 a ticket.
And considering the astronomical price of tuition at that school and the large amount of donations to the theater program, it's not like they have to charge that much. NYU's got enough money.
if you're a student, it's not $20.
I paid $10.
And I don't go to NYU. I go to Northeastern.

Is it really???? Cuz it said somewhere that it was only $10 for NYU students.
That's what I thought too, but when I got to the ticket counter the girl said are you a student? I said I'm not a NYU student...she said, but you're a student somewhere? I said yes, I'm a Northeastern student. She said ok, $10.

OOO good deal! I don't wanna have to schlepp down there to pay $20 (cuz I won't) but $10 sounds a LOT better!!! ME HAPPY!
I'm surprised at the ticket prices as well for this show -there must be some high costs because I know many of the shows in the past for that space have been much cheaper, and most shows at NYU are much cheaper.
It didn't look cheap.
I hope it is more expensive because they put more money into the production, after the set of the off-off bway Merrily I saw in August I want to see something nice.
please...the show is not about the set..wow...lacking a little imagination are we.
I don't think I ever said the show was "about the set" I said that the set didn't look cheap, and I could see the reason for charging $20.

$20 is a bargain, trust me. You can't really compare the costs of seeing a show like this with the rush policies of Broadway shows. This is a very limited run, not something which will be around for months or years that is only committing a small percentage of seats to a much lower than normal price. If you want to see some extremely talented performers before they become big stars, take advantage of the opportunity and go see Merrily. If you can't afford $10 or $20 and all you want to do is complain about how rich NYU is, then don't bother! The shows will sell out regardless. :) And as for the comment about the huge donations to the arts at NYU, this is a common myth. Alumni donations to Tisch and Steinhardt are a small fraction of what is given to other NYU colleges. Not that this has ANYthing at all to do with what is charged for productions. Anyway, hope to see a lot of you there! You won't regret it.
Avigdor, are you implying I said the show is about the set? That is also patently absurd. The set looking very cheap and drab just adds to the experience of a show not being very enjoyable.
I don't mind if the set is absolutely minimal, but if you are going to TRY to put up an extensive set, it helps for it to actually look functional. No set at all, where I could "use my imagination" would have been very nice.
Agreed smartpenguin -the set doesn't need to be EXPENSIVE, it needs to be well-designed.
I would try to assure you, smartpenguin, but I don't think I know the set designer...

I'm going on Saturday.
I've seen several productions by the students at NYU over the last 18 months, and they have all been quite well-done.
Looking forward to this one!
I won't be able to make it on or before Sunday. Grrr.
This show/ production is brilliant. Brilliant brilliant brilliant.
