In the tease, they suggested one of the "major" roles was seriously off, so I assumed it was Hoffman (I had thought Liev S. might be brilliant in the part). But no, they had real problems with the Streep take on the part, finding fault, predictably with her not opting to duplicate Cherry's. The role can be played in many ways, and Cherry, as good as she was -- and she was sublime -- was young for the part. I bet Meryl brings weight and a kind of grandeur, and absolute sense of authority to the role. She doesn't have to crank up that authority; she merely "is" it.
