I hate to be that kid asking about a rush, but I was wondering if anyone has ever tried the rush for a show at the Met Opera? It looks like they put aside $20-$25 tickets for each performance that you can get day-of. I'm looking at going to see Le Comte Ory in a few weeks, but all of the cheap sections are sold out for the only day I can go. Apparently they'll sell tickets 2 hours before the performance on a Monday, but I was wondering if anyone has done it and could clue me in. Is this something that you wait in line for before 2 hours to curtain? I'd love to know if people line up much earlier. If you've ever done it, I'd love some advice. Thanks!
How early people start lining up truly depends on the opera. Comte Ory is ending up being one of the most popular operas this season, so people are coming quite early. I've walked by and seen people lining up as early at 9:30am (for some of the more popular productions like Carmen), but those are people who then go out of the Plaza to scalp the tickets. There are 150 tickets given out at the window for each Monday-Thursday performance, so don't be discouraged if the line looks quite long when you get there.
Another option to consider is standing room, which goes on sale each weekday at 10am at the box office, online and over the phone. There is standing room available at the back of the Orchestra and Family Circle sections. Ory has short acts (66 and 67 minutes), which wouldn't be too bad to stand through.

If you have a student ID, you can go to the window anytime to get student tickets for that price. You can even do it online for future performances.
