According to ATC, Laurie Metcalf has been offered the role of Kate in the upcoming repertory Broadway production of Neil Simon's BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS and BROADWAY BOUND.

Here's hoping this casting comes to fruition. Metcalf (who still needs to do AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY) would be absolutely fantastic.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Every time I see a headline with only Laurie's last name, I always brace for the worst and think the thread's about Jesse Metcalfe. Cause we all know what an epic television and film actor he is.

Wow, that's fantastic. I guess that means The Quality of Life isn't happening anytime soon...

and Josh Grisetti from Enter Laughing as Eugene.

The producers have held extensive open calls looking for actors between the ages of 14 and 18 for Eugene, so my guess is they'll be going with a complete unknown. In fact, they've said that they're hoping this production will do for a new young actor what the original did for Matthew Broderick.

At 27, Josh Grisetti (who would probably be quite good) seems to be out of the scope of what they're interested in.

Metcalf just needs to head to the Music Box instead. She'd be brilliant as Barbara.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

"It?s only a rumor at this point, but The Chicago Tribune is reporting that "well-placed word" has it that Steppenwolf Theatre Company member Laurie Metcalf will star as matriarch Kate Jerome in director David Cromer's upcoming Broadway revivals of Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound"

Sounds good to me!

I just found his PLAYBILL.COM'S CUE & A. It's pretty funny.

"Current show you have been recommending to friends:

None of my friends can afford to see theatre. They're all actors."

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

I have a feeling Metcalf's casting is still up in the air due to her involvement with The Farm, a spin-off of The L Word she is part of at Showtime (the pilot was shot late last year, I believe.)

The network has yet to make a decision on whether or not they're picking up the show, which very well could directly effect Metcalf's availability for the fall.
