This sounds like a classy production, one worth seeing if not worth traveling for.

Yes, I think that's how I'd describe it - I happened to be in the Hamptons for the week, which is why I saw it and if I go back to the Hamptons before the show closes then I'll try to see it again. I definitely recommend it (the video doesn't do the production justice!) but I don't think that it's a "can't miss" kind of thing. Definitely take my opinion with a grain of salt, though, because I actually knew very little about the show when I saw it (although now I'm in love with the show and have done a lot of research on it since then!)

"sounds like a classy production" I mean...I can see it and hear it, and it looks fine...I wouldn't say it's NOT classy, but then, what is a non-classy production? It's professionally done, for sure.

I love that the OP was asking for reviews from those who have seen the show, but instead got negative reviews from people that haven't, and likely won't see the show.
I can understand the notion of seeing a few clips and discussing that it doesn't interest you, but to actually trash an entire concept when you haven't seen it in context just seems a bit absurd to me.

Seeing it this week. Will report back. I love the show and have admired Arden's work - looking forward to seeing this production, though slightly concerned about this production's concept. Nothing beats a day at the beach followed by first-rate theater.

Yes, that's exactly what I did - I even bought my ticket that day while I was sitting on the beach! I'm interested to hear what people's reviews are who were familiar with My Fair Lady before, as I wasn't. They can probably critique more on the show's concept.

So has anyone else seen this production? Curious to hear more thoughts on it.

I didn't end up seeing it, (and I'm kind of regretting it).. but I know at least two on this board were planning to based on this thread- thoughts?
Also how was Bobby Conte Thornton as Freddy? (He's going to make his Broadway debut soon starring in A Bronx Tale).

Show was excellent if imperfect. Well chosen cuts to script. Leads were all stellar, though with two former Phantom leads taking on smaller roles, I wondered why they weren't at the top of the bill. Concept needs some sharpening, but it was a lovely way to present this show with a small cast and two pianos. Worked for me and for the sold out crowd, lots of laughter and murmurs of appreciation at the final tableau. Arden has a real career as a director in front of him- looking forward to catching his Merrily in LA this fall.

Thank you for the response, FiddleMeThis! That does sound lovely... Did you have any thoughts about Bobby Conte Thornton as Freddy? I've been a bit fascinated with him since I watched the videos of his 54 Below performance.

Bobby is excellent but this wasn't the role for him- he didn't sound the same as those 54 Below vids. I think the guy from Phantom would have been a better fit. Very curious to see Bobby in Bronx Tale, which seems like it will be a perfect fit.
