Michael Ball

Has anyone seen the trailer for UKTV Gold's Wogan Now & Then, where Terry asks Michael 'How's Your Edelweiss.'
Is this a hint that he may be in the Sound Of Music, instead of Anthony Head perhaps?
The interview goes out at 7pm on Sunday.
Any thoughts?

re: Michael Ball

Hhmmm... maybe. To be honest, i really like Anthony Head, he's a brilliant actor but i can place Michael Ball better in the role of Captain Von Trapp. Maybe thats just me but i think he might be slightly better suited to the Sound of Music.

re: Michael Ball

god that man annoys me hes so musical happy clappy theatre he was awfull in chitty

re: Michael Ball

Didn't sound like he was going to do Sound of Music but who can tell....
I liked him in Chitty and his Count Fosco was great - I'd like to see him in another character role.

re: Michael Ball

Good God people!

Michael Ball? Have you people no shame? Captain Von Trapp for one thing cannot be that fat. You should be looking at someone like Michael Cerveris or the kind of Actor who played Sir Percival Glyde in Woman in White. Captain Von Trapp is such a legendary role, MB would ruin it like he did with Caractacus Potts.

Cathy "I'd like to see him in another character role."

He plays a performer who loves his fans all the time. Can't find more of a character than that.

re: Michael Ball

I think he would be a terrific Capt Von Trapp. But he is not doing the role. Where have you been hiding??? He is hardly over weight??? And he was a great Caractacus Potts. Much better that Broadways Mr. Esparza. He was so wrong for the role. While Capt Von Trapp is a good role it is hardly "classic" His Fosco was the best. I agree though, I think another comedic, character role would be fantastic.

re: Michael Ball

I love Michael Ball. I even bought his pop album 15 years ago!

He has a great voice and was cute....but yeah, he's gained alot of weight.

Still, I'd watch anything he's in.

re: Michael Ball

Which of us hasn't put on weight in fifteen years?
#11

re: Michael Ball

He is not painfully thin as in the Musicals dvd some years back but when I saw him at Chrismas he was just fine. His voice is still spectacular and he has the best interpretations of lyrics of anyone around.

re: Michael Ball

Bollocks.......he's PAST IT!!

Enough said!!

re: Michael Ball

I beg to differ. And what concert could you have seen? He has done only one concert in the last year and that was last weekend. And it got great critical reviews. mmmmmmmmmm.......

re: Michael Ball

Wow for a moment I thought I was on WOS.

Vegas Lady
Maybe some of the inmates at that particular venue escaped. This really is a much nicer place.

"Bollocks.......he's PAST IT!!"

Wot Rot!!!

If the performer I saw the Saturday before last is past it.Then God help the rest of 'em.

He might not be as thin as his 27 year old Alex was in Aspects of Love but he looked fit and well(not over weight)and he sang amazingly.Being Alive was sang with intensity and power as it had been on the last tour.

I could see him as the Capt.

re: Michael Ball

Thread's a little old, but having just semi-attended an Elaine Paige/Michael Ball concert in town this evening (not that I even needed to go into town; if last night's Simply Red gig was anything to go by, I probably could've heard them from my bedroom window XD), I can confidently say that Michael Ball is still sounding absolutely amazing. Although I cannot comment on his physical appearance due to being unable to see him... XD

(And just for LOLs, Anthony Head was at the concert too. He came out at intermission to encourage everyone to give generously to charity. It was quite the evening. ^_^)

re: Michael Ball

I have heard from friends who attended last night's concert, several friends in fact, and they said that both Michael and Elaine were in fantastic voice. They were apparently having a great time singing together. Wish I could have seen them. Wish they would do more of these kinds of concerts. The venue was beautiful and the weather was great

"BOLLOCKS HES PAST IT"?!?!

re: Michael Ball

Weez, if you saw Monday's Bath Chronicle, you'll get an idea of how Michael looked on Saturday.

Past it, Arky? I beg to differ. I, too, was at the concert in Bath on Saturday, and the man was looking very fit, and was in outstanding voice. I had several spine-tingling moments -- "This is The Moment," "Anthem," and "Prepare Ye/Gethsemane" being but three. His Gethsemane was the best I've ever heard, and it garnered him a well-deserved standing ovation. Elaine Paige was also outstanding in her solos, and together they just lit up the stage. They both said something about repeating the experience. I hope they do.

re: Michael Ball

Let's hope you are right. Two top-notch performers having the time of their lives performing together. What a treat for an audience.

re: Michael Ball

Bah, I completely missed the paper. Is it worth going to the Chronicle office and asking if they still have any Monday ones left, d'you think?

Did you guys all make the trip to Bath especially, or do you live in/near the city? O_o

re: Michael Ball

Here are scans of the cover of the paper and one of the photos -- I'll leave it up to you whether you think it's worth going to the paper. re: Michael Ball There was just a short article about both weekend concerts. There was also an editorial about how Bath should host more of such events.

I live in Switzerland, but I do travel to England quite a bit, as it's an easy trip to make. I don't go to every concert, but I try to go to at least one of Michael's concerts where possible. Bath is one of my favorite cities, so I was really glad of the excuse to visit the city again. re: Michael Ball

re: Michael Ball

Great post kec. Thanks for the photos. You just or rather the pictures show what a terrifc performance it was and how great they were together.

re: Michael Ball

KEC
I was just thinking you might want to post this on the regular Broadway board as both Michael and Elaine have many fans in the States and they might be wondering what they are up to. Just a thought
