I have been thinking about who I want to be cast in the Hairspray movie and I really like the idea of Michael Buble as Corny. He can sing and he has the look and he's the right age (He's 29 or 30). What do people think?
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofuTOO young and cute. Corny needs to have a veneer of showbiz cynisisim. He'd be serious competiton for Link as leading man.
You have a good point...
BUt they do seem to be casting younger then expected with queen latifa and such, so I'm not sure.

I'm not sure why everybody on this board of late wants to turn him into an actor...
I always think the dynamic of the show is a lot stronger when Corny is played younger. The struggle of generations between him and Velma is a lot better and funnier.

I don't know, there's just something about him that screems Corny Collins to me...
People can also say who THEY think would be good in the role.

( yeah I KNOW this has a zero chance of happening but a Goil can dream!) Has youth, looks ,charm and can sing. ( not the right range but I think he could be trained)
I could see that...
But would he do something like the hairspray movie after doing wlak the line?

Not really.
1. its a supporting role. Principal talent want leading roles to consolidate their bargaining position w other producers.
2. He prob does not want to be come TOO associated w musical parts.
Other than that tho- He could qualify.

for people who don't know who Michael Buble here's a picture

I find him Vanilla and bland as a performer. He's like Josh Groban. OK voice, but the eyes are totally vacant...like they could be thinking about warm apple pie while singing a heartbreaking song.
Michael Buble's star is rising rapidly. His concerts are now selling out in a matter of minutes and his audience is cross generational and very diverse. I've seen him in concert all 3 times that he has performed in Atlanta and can attest to his charisma with a live audience. I got a chance to meet Michael last week and he seems like he is a very nice guy.
Sure, I could see him in musical parts in movies. I'm not sure if the "Corny Collins" role in the upcoming "Hairspray" movie would be the right part or vehicle for him at this stage in his career.
I don't care what anyone thinks...I want to see Ewan McGregor as Corny.
I don't have any objections to that! :)
