I happened to have my music on shuffle yesterday and the MOVIN' OUT recording came on.
I wasn't a fan of the show but am a big Billy Joel fan and absolutely loved Michael Cavanauh's lead vocals.
Anyway, a colleague of mine said he tried to continue some type of theatre career after MOVIN' OUT but his alcoholism really ruined it.
Is this true? Does anyone know what became of Mr. Cavanaugh?
I adore him. Super-talented, and a really sweet guy.
I have no idea why he didn't continue to do more theater after Movin' Out, but I always assumed it was simply that he isn't really an actor -- he's a singer and a musician. His role in Movin' Out wasn't that of an actor, and his background and prior experience had never been in acting. I think he's been in various performing around the country in the past few years, hasn't he? I know I see his name on Playbill every now and again.
Isn't he in A Catered Affair right now?
I got curious and wandered over to his website, which doesn't seem to have been updated in a while, but there was a link to his MySpace page, which has been updated more recently.
He's got a bunch of stuff coming up throughout the second half of the year:

Emcee, thanks. Checked it out.
I know he was never really an actor - much more of a musician and singer. My colleague had said, however, that Michael wanted to try a career in theatre after MOVIN' OUT.
no idea if it's true or not so I was just curious.
good to see he's still performing!
oh LOL sorry
Hey, TooDarnHot!
No, this report on Michael is far from true! Michael is a dear friend of mine, and he is a devout Christian and doesn't drink at all. He is a true family man and a really fine person!
After Movin' Out, Michael and his family moved back to Las Vegas (where they were living before the show) to work on his recording career. He has wonderful music, which can be heard on his myspace page as well as his website: www.michaelcavanaugh.com. He continues to perform at private and corporate events as well as the rare public performance. He also made his Carnegie Hall debut last spring with the New York Pops. We have by no means heard the last of him!

I saw him perform last summer in Connecticut. He was beyond fantastic, a real pleasure to watch perform. I met him afterwards, and he was a real sweet guy.
I love Michael!!! He is such an incredible performer. And his cd is great!
