The biggest selling daily in England reported that apparently Michael Crawford is in talks for The Producers UK.
I would believe them if it wasn't for the fact they have named every actor under the sun for it. They've named so far Lee Evans, Robert Lindsay, Frank Skinner and John Hannah as well as numerous others who I can't remember.

Shoot me NOWWWW!!!! You just know he is DYING to add in Music of the Night and take out King of old Broadway….
Sorry- just can't picture it- at all. His voice and persona is not at all right for the role. I don't think he should be cast, although he would bring in ticket sales.
The idea alone is making me violently sick.
And still, it's all about ticket sales...sickness aside, he sells tickets and we don't.
I think this is an awful idea! I can't even picture him as Max. He's just not over-the-top.
He could be over the top......if we all got together and pushed!!!!
WOW! Thats awsome!!!!! =-D
I saw Lane in the show and have a hard time imagining Michael Crawford in the role. He can, however, play comedy and has done.
He wanted his role in Dance of the Vampires to be over-the-top comedic, but infighting during the development and previews of the show between those who wanted the show more comedic and those who wanted it more dramatic and heavy left it both and neither. Perhaps he could do Max, but it's probably just a rumor. I've heard him do an American accent---but an American jewish producer??

Michael was pretty over the top for DOTV right? Maybe he could do it
His comedy pre phantom was quite over-the-top, and good too. although i dont see him performing this role as well as others, i think itd be interesting to see. however, i think hed be very hesitant to take on the role as he seems easily hurt by harsh criticism. so hed probably want a role that he knew was a sure-fire hit next.
You never know...maybe they'll write in an Italian accent.
Oops, sorry, I mean Sicilian.
Oh surely not. It's not April 1st again is it?
Only if he wears that hot, powered wig from DOTV.
I think he can do it and when hes done with his run in the UK, he can come to Broadway =-D

If I have my info right it might not be for Max, some time ago there was word he might be Roger Debris....better fit in my mind.
He might be good as Roger, after all Michael is a over inflated, self absorbed drama queen in real life. His doing Max is another thing. That would require versatility and acting ability, things he doesn't have.

Don't know about the drama queen stuff, but his roles have ranged from a hit UK comedy seris to Barnum to Phantom of the Opera to four different roles in that Las Vegas show (sorry to mention those dirty words, LV). Looks like some versatility to me.

I suspect that a better fit for your mind would be to have him play a urinal in "Urine Town" and be the recipient of the title substance---or can't you pass up an opportunity for a catty remark when his name comes up?

Bravo Sally! I agree with you. Mr. Crawford has shown his versatility time and time again.
There are those who are always going to take every opportunity to try to put him down and those who will always enjoy his work. I happen to be one who has yet to be disappointed by anything he has done and look forward to whatever he decides to do next.

I saw Crawford many moons ago in Peter Shaffer's farce BLACK COMEDY and he was exceptionally good. Of course he was much younger then, but he did the physical comedy well and had fine timing. Maybe...just maybe...he could pull off Max.
Ive also heard from others that he was wonderful in Black Comedy (his first broadway production). And in watching SOme mothers do ave em, the film of funny thing happened.., the hello dolly film (sorry dollypop, i enjoyed it), and even, yes, DOTV, its obvious that the man can perform comedy. Ive read his autobiography and up until his phantom role, which he was incredibly surprised to have been asked to do, he had done mostly comey on the British stage. it just seems like he hasnt bc phantom has overshadowed his entire career.
oh, and for those who continually post a message just to bash the man, honestly, get a life. you are like children (and the most annyoing ones on EARTH, the kind who never shut up) I'm sure there are people at your respected work places who talk about you behind your back and notice every mistake you make. if not, there should be, so you can feel the pain caused by hurtful people like yourselves.

Hey you sanctimonious Crawford pitbulls, when I SAID I thought he'd be a good fit as "Roger DeBris" I didn't mean it in a negative way! If done right Roger steals the show and Crawford's voice would do Springtime For Hitler justice....yes, I hated him in DOTV, but was there cheering him on as the Phantom many times, including the second performance at Her Majesty's....

Stop trying to confuse these people by pointing out the obvious! Don't you understand that they've already made up their minds... facts only make their heads hurt!
