Michael Riedel's reviews?
#0Michael Riedel's reviews?
Posted: 6/13/05 at 7:33pmI tried going to nypost.com to read his reviews of theatre, but when I went to the "Theatre" page under the "Entertainment" section, all of the reviews were written by different authors, none of them being Riedel. Anyone have a link to reviews?

Posted: 6/13/05 at 7:37pmRiedel isn't a theatre critic, he's just a columnist. He writes gossip, not reviews.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 7:38pmIf Im correct, Riedel is only the Bway columnist for the Post while Clive Barnes is the reviewer. Dont know if Im right or not but Im pretty sure I am.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 10:18pmRiedel will be the first person to tell you that he doesn't write "reviews", nor does he ever wish to. He is a gossip columnist and proud of it. Clive Barnes is the Broadway critic for the Post; Frank Scheck has the Off-Broadway beat.

Reidel is the BUTCHER OF BROADWAY.
It is all an act. But he is funny.
As long as you are not Bernadette, Donna Murphy etc.
The difference between Musto and Reidel is Musto loves Broadway.
I don't think Reidel loves theatre.
Musto, a gossip columnist for the Voice, Showpeople and E, is very passionate about the theater scene.
I respect Musto for that. And he is a great person.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 11:18pmI thought Frank Rich was called "the Butcher of Broadway" first. I wonder how he feels about Riedel's appropriation of the title. I wish Rich would go back to writing reviews, which he was good at, instead of his column, with which I usually agree but find very irritating.

That's a petition somebody needs to start. Fire Brantley. Force Rich to write about theatre.
(I also agree with his views, but the Times has a hundred writers who could do that column at least as well, but few people on the planet can write about theatre better than Rich).

Reidel is sexy in the same way David Hyde Pierce is sexy.
Not sure Reidel is straight.
He hangs out with the owner of Chez Josephine's.
(They make the best white chocolate mousse in NYC)
They were sitting together at Dame Edna.
He might be straight, but who knows.
Who cares.
I actually like him and I don't want to like him.
He pissed me off at a recent Seth's Chatterbox event.
But, he does make me laugh.
I swear David Hyde Pierce is his twin.
(Like his column for the dummies that think I have feelings for him)

both Reidel and Hyde Peirce are gay. Girl you got issues. No wonder you are single. You have crushes on all these gay men. John Tartaglia, Namo, Pierce, reidel, Lily Tomlin, Rosie Odonell. Lord.. te list goes on and on with you.

I don't have a crush on Reidel. Dolly does.
As for the rest of the men you mentioned, not a chance.
Snap out of it Midtown, I have never had a crush on you.
Dame, I have never had a crush on you, I have never met you.
Midtown, you were a friend, nothing more.
You people are so vain. Snap out of it.
The only crush I have is Craig Bierko, have I made myself clear?
GOOD!
I might enjoy the company of gay men. They are more fun then straight men. They have more in common with me. In a recent date from Jdate hell a guy I met told me he hated theatre and proceeded to fix his balls. I am not kidding. Right in the restaurant. UGH. But most of you are pigs! I hate you all equally!!!!!
But, I don't have crushes. Gay men can be friends!
OY!

Posted: 6/14/05 at 8:12amMy wife tells me gay men are neater and care more for their appearance. Probably true! I can only tell when they talk (usually) - I could care less either way, but maybe in general, they are neater actually?

They make the best friends.
But sometimes they turn on you like a cat.
But the men I meet have no interest in Theater.
They are obsessed about sports, cnn and things that bore me.
I WOULD RATHER BE ALONE then spend time with them.
The most boring one talks about money 24/7.
Snoreville.
When he talks about coins or baseball I just think about Contact.
Pass me a roll.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 8:18amWhat's wrong with CNN? Gay men watch it too.

I can handle CNN.
But talking about gold coins and money bores me to death.
That one wont drink Cosmos and make me laugh.
If I can't laugh I would rather be dead.
Laughter is happiness for me and most gay men make me laugh.
I actually had a few great men in my life that loved theater. I will meet him again.
If not I will survive.

Hmmmm... Not gay here, but wife complains I talk TOO much about theatre, and things to do in Las vegas - lol. Rarely about sports to her (I know shes not interested). I don't watch CNN.
And yes, Mr. Reidel DOES look like David Hyde Pierce!

Oh I think Michael Riedel truly loves the theater,he has a vast knowledge of it's history which informs much of his writing.
I always find his stuff witty, focused and spot-on regarding the theater biz...sure he gets people worked up, but my God, at least there is passion there, something that was certainly lacking this past season overall.
