Michelle Federer as Elphaba?

Posted: 7/25/05 at 2:15pmEverytime I have seen Wicked I always think was a great, strong, pure voice she has and I was wondering if anyone thinks she could do Elphaba. I don't even know myself, because I don't know what her range is, but I was just curious what everyones opinion is.

Michelle is great as Nessa. I don't know if she could pull off Elphaba, but I think at this point, people will look at her strictly as Nessa.
Michelle, you're a wonderful woman! Find a better role!

Posted: 7/25/05 at 3:57pmShe does have a beautiful voice, but I don't know if Elphaba is the way to go on that one... I don't think it's really quite powerful enough.

Posted: 7/25/05 at 4:54pmNessa's voice, I don't think it's really belty enough... however... she is fab and def needs a better role than Nessa! I'd like to see her do comedy bc I've heard she was good at that...

Posted: 7/25/05 at 5:02pmNessa is belty. She belts out most of Wicked Witch and she does it so purely . . she loves the role she has extended many times. She's there until January, my best friend knows her well so she gave him a tour and said she extended.

She kinda has the idina-gasping-air-between-each-half-of-a-phrase thing going for her
"Finally for this one night **GASP** i'm about to have a fun night **GASP** with this munchkin boy **GASP** Galinda found for me **GASP**"....etc...etc
her voice is very pretty, but as others have said I'm not sure if it's strong enough...or if she has those crazy E's or whatever they are you need to belt...

Posted: 7/25/05 at 6:23pmHer voice is too pretty for Elphaba, I think. She'd probably do well with a role that requires her to sing in her legit voice; she understudied in A Man of No Importance, after all.

Posted: 7/25/05 at 6:29pmI'd love to see her do something in her legit voice. That would be glorious.

Posted: 7/25/05 at 6:56pmShe has a beautiful voice and is very talented and I agree, she needs to find a better role then Nessa that really shows off her voice from what it is. As some have said, Nessa's a hard role to shine through no matter how good your voice is. But I don't really see Michelle as Elphaba, I agree, her voice isn't really belty enough in my opinion. Still a very talented individual nonetheless.

I almost started a Michelle as...thread yesterday, but I didn't.
I want to see her play Christine in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

Posted: 7/25/05 at 9:05pmi think its relatively hard to judge someone's ability to pull off a tank of a role with three very difficult songs to do 8 times a week based entirely off 2 songs that total out to about 2 minutes all together. Not a knock to her but it would be sorta like saying rue mclanahan could make an amazing mama rose based off her 2 songs as morrible.

I like her voice well enough, but I cannot see her pulling off Elphaba. Can never know for sure though.
And to say that anyone can play Elphaba is the most idiotic statement I've heard all year.

I think dee's gaspy-ness is due to...
a) Stephen doesn't believe in rests for elphie to breathe
b) She's just gaspy.
