I'm pretty sure I said it on the Anthony Rapp thread during its brief bout with anti-smoking rants but I'll say it again, smoking when your job is so dependent on the health and state of your voice is probably one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. I could rant for ages but in a nutshell, that's what it all boils down to. I think I already knew that Michelle smoked but I've never heard anything about Idina being a smoker til now. Although correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Anthony say on some entry/blog that he and Rosario (or him and Tracie...one of the two) were the only ones who didn't smoke in the cast?)

Anyways on a lighter note, I'd also like to see Michelle as Christine in DRS. I think she'd do well in that role.

I've heard reports that Kristen Chenoweth smoked ... have no idea of their validity, though.

Wow, thats wayyy off topic but, I could never picture Michelle as Elpbaba, Michelle seems like an alto to me... at least when I saw her live, but I may be wrong.

Yeah, Idina definitely smokes... people have seen her and Taye smoking on the Rent set...

I think it's dumb too, and also really kind of not nice of Idina to assert at all of her concerts that she DOESN'T smoke or drink. I mean, I don't care either way bc it's none of my business at all (even if I think it's dumb), however, why lie about it? It just makes her look even worse and causes me to lose respect for her.

I think we should just leave Michelle to playing Nessa since she does such a fantastic job and there's no need to change that. I'm sure if you look at it from one point of view, any girl could play Elphaba in some people's opinion

She is a great Nessa. I doubt she could sing Elphaba though.

i vote for michelle as christine as well. she would sound nice in nothing is too wonderful to be true. plus, she'd get to play opposite norbert!

These people who smoke are crazy. It's maybe the single worst thing you can do for your health anyway, but when you are a singer, it's tantamount to career suicide. Still, it's obviously very addictive and it's terribly easy for non-smokers to get a bit righteous and mouth off about smoking when we don't have a full appreciation of how difficult it is to give up.

I kind of recall an interview with Michelle when Wicked opened where she said she didn't think of herself as a singer and felt uncomfortable (initially) having to sing around Kristen and Idina. She mentioned that they were VERY supportive and never made her feel like she didn't fit in, but she definitely didn't feel she was in the same league as Kristen and Idina. I think Wicked was also (perhaps) the only singing role she had been offered.

I think Idina isn't gaspy because she smokes, she has asthma. That's why she gasps all the time.

I too would like to see what Michelle would do with Christine, however does she have the comedic timing?

im seeing wicked in october, and i was wondering: when does michelle leave wicked, i really wanna see her in it?!?
just a question: which broadway stars (that you guys know of) DONT smoke? sutton maybe...?
