Also, I like Meryl, and I admit that she is a great actress, but why does everyone come to the general consensus that if she's in it, it will be gold? Could she have saved "Basic Instinct 2" if she was in it? Thing is, Meryl Streep wouldn't have done BASIC INSTINCT 2. She is very careful when she chooses a project. She has been wrong of course, I mean, REDEMPTION and LION FOR THE LAMBS were slashed by the critics this past year (though I read great reviews for her in those movies from critics who hated the films themselves).
I consider her to be American royalty and so whatever she endorses deserves to at least be looked at. It's not like she could be in I KNOW WHO KILLED ME and all of the sudden make it good, it's the fact that she would have never even thought of being part of the movie itself.
Re her part in MAMMA MIA, she loves the show, hence why she decided to take the role of Donna. I think it is a shame that she hasn't done a movie musical before (though she sings in a bunch of movies) but it's great that we'll finally get one. Can't wait to have Meryl Streep singing a bunch of ABBA songs on my iPod.
Now she needs to send her kid off to college and make her long-awaited Broadway comeback.
