Micky Dolenz on broadway again!

Well been reading Micky Dolenz interviews and he has mentioned in some june articles that this past spring he was in new york and did some interviews for several broadway plays. Some he was particurlary intrested in doing. I don't recall him mentioning any titles , though I thought he had. The tidbit we get is that it is a possibility and he said this in one of interviews he may return to broadway next year. I'm very curious as to what plays he had interviewed for or was offered roles for. Which ever it is.

This coming october 22 he will return to new york and appear at B .B. Kings for another broadway rockers concert benefit , also on october 20 he will appear with his band at westburry.

I won't be suprised if he mentions broadway again in further interviews. His daughter Amy recently did an access cable talk show for her upcoming film and mentioned how hard Micky worked in Aidia volcal training and everything and how much he enjoyed working on the production of that show. She said he really takes care of his voice. I know he must be very proud of playing Zosar, he has yet to not mention in some form or in some interview.

As for Pippin I saw only the clips of his portrayal of the king and thought it looked rather intresting. Micky stated in a recent interview that he did a lot of research into that character and loved every minute doing it. From the photos I saw of the show , it was clear to me he was extremely happy working on Pippin. You can't miss his big ear to ear grin.

With both these roles Micky said before hand in interviews he was playing them with his own spin on things. It seems to me people walked into the shows exspecting him to play the characters like actors before him or like actors in other productions had so they were disapointed. Like most actors Micky made Zosar and King Charlemaign his own which is how it should be in all fairness to him and anyone else who played those roles.
Every actor puts a little of themselves into a role. Besides rather than criticize the man's talent or compare him to others who have played those roles before ,I would rather prase the man for doing what he loves and living out his dreams. After all it isnt everyone that has that kind of courage.

Interesting. I wonder what he has planned? I'm sure though it will be announced as soon as anything is finalized. I think he's a great character. It's difficult to replace anyone who has become popular in a role. Sometimes your own spin works, sometimes it doesn't. At some point though if it isn't working for the audience then you should go with what the crowd wants. Especially if you are part of an ensemble.

His daughter Amy recently did an access cable talk show for her upcoming film and mentioned how hard Micky worked in Aidia volcal training and everything and how much he enjoyed working on the production of that show.

AIDA. Vocal.

I know he must be very proud of playing Zosar, he has yet to not mention in some form or in some interview.

Zoser.

And not to be harsh, but perhaps he mentions AIDA in every interview because it has been the only non-Monkees related job he has gotten in the last 25 years.

Actually, WTBF, Mickey has been working all of these years, as an Actor, Producer, Director and a Writer. Just check out IMDb. He's in a new movie, Halloween and producing a show called G'Day LA.

He had a radio show it says in 2005. I don't know if it still exists or not? A lot of his appearances have been as himself. That must be rough!re: Micky Dolenz on broadway again! But he has been working.

I would not want to see Mickey play Oliver. I think he is a little tall for that role. I don't know if he is any good as a Broadway Actor or Singer. His singing voice though doesn't bother me. Anyone see him in Aida?

I saw him in AIDA. He held his own in an underwritten role (was any role in AIDA not underwritten?). I'm not sure his voice could handle the 8 performances a week, though. He was a bit raspy at the performance I attended. But he was clearly giving his all up there.

I find it hard to believe that producers would be seeking him out to be anything but a stunt cast replacement. With all of the trained actors and/or marketable names who can originate roles, I could hardly see someone seeking to hire Micky Dolenz to star in the original cast of a new production, as he falls into neither category.

It does make you wonder. If he can improve his singing problem and bring something exciting to Broadway than alright. I feel badly missing Aida. It seems though it could have been done better?

If Dolenz can fit the part and sing it I wouldn't mind. Though if he can't, I agree, put someone who can sing the part please. Maybe he has some money for Production? It will be interesting to find out. He was really funny in the Monkees. I wouldn't mind him playing something kind of screwed up and funny. I think his comedic timing is pretty good.

Actually Micky has done some theatre work in his career for tthe us and uk stages.

In 1971 he played a jazz drummer a dramatic acting role in remains to be scene off-broadway stage play.

1975 he stared woth Davy Jones in the play Tom Sawyer. Davy as Tom Sawyer and micky as a very tall Huckelberry Finn. A riegonal production close to were I live.

1976 -He starred again with Davy Jones on the London stage in the Point. Davy was Oblio and Micky was the counts kid a roll taylor made for him. Micky also did a second role as the leafman.

in 1979 and 1982 Micky wrote and directed the stage play bugsy malone and also directed the musical company both for the uk stage.

in 1992 he stared along with a tony award winning cast in a musical summer production called the wonder years.

in 1993 he toured nationaly with A funny Thing Happened on The Way to the Forum.

Micky took over the role of Vince Fontaine from Davy jones in the National Tour of Grease in 1996 I think. Somewhere in there.

Of course He toured Nationaly with Aida as Zosar before being asked to play in on broadway in 2004 I believe.

And just completed a national tour of Pippin as the king just this spring. and incodently Micky's sister Coco peformed in a regional production of Pippin this past summer which he was there opening night. Pippin sure floats around that family.

Quiet a line of theatre credits don't you all think! Can't wait to see what he does next!

Thanks for the rundown horselightning. I have no idea but I too am intrigued by the notion. I just hope it is something funny. I know he has been very busy. He probably won't say anything until he has a signed contract though. Anything can go wrong but lets just hope the role is right for him.

Your welcome. Yes Micky seems to have a lot going for him which includes his own prodcution company he owns with a friend. Least he isnt bored. I hope Micky gets something he likes too and continues his concert tours as well. Someone one once sugested him as a Daddy Warbucks. Good heavnes no I can't picture him in that role at all. Micky is definetly not a daddy warbucks. Knowing Micky has a love for science and history I could see him as a funny dr. dolittle type or another king or something. Ok I 'm rambling will just have to wait and see.
