Sorry folks. Obviously we know the divine Miss M. currently spells her name MIDLER as she has for many years. She was an "extra" in the Julie Andrews film HAWAII(although in the DIVINE MADNESS CONCERT she refers to THE ROSE as her first film) and shortly after that, it seems the "second d" from MIDDLER was dropped and turned her into Bette MIDLER. There SURE did seem to be a vogue at the time for performers to drop or add letters from their names, some of it continues to go on now. Obviously Barbara Streisand became Barbra and depending on the year, we get either Kay Ballard or Kaye Ballard. :) With one D or two,,,,,,I still adore Bette Midler......What a talent. Watched FOR THE BOYS again the other night. The film has gotten better with age(Midler does great work with Mark Rydell--he directed her to this Oscar nominated performance in FOR THE BOYS, as he directed her Oscar nominated performance in THE ROSE.) She has a couple of surprisingly "bad acting moments" in the very first scene she is in (I never understood why this wasn't fixed with editing.) After that scene, it is a very good film with an excellent Bette performance. :)
