I have purchased tickets to see Millie at Christmas. I am very excited as I missed out on my last trip to NY. What I find intriguing is it got less than favorable reviews recently in the WE. How are the productions different?? Are the critics there as obnoxious to some American theatre as some of our critics are to WE productions that come across the pond??? Just a query. I dont' recall the reviews over here being *that* favorable when the show opened.
If I recall correctly and just dealing with the majors, Millie had favorable reviews from Daily News, Newsday, New York Magazine, USA Today, AP, Time Out New York and Newark Star Ledger, and mixed or negative reviews from the NY Times, New York Post, New York One and New York Observer.

Millie is one of those shows that critics tend to hate because its pretty basic. The songs are fun, but not great masterpieces...the dancing and staging isn't the best...so it doesn't get spectacular reviews. But for the most part, audiences tend to love it. Granted, there are those who don't, but there are more who do like it. Its just a fun musical - cute story, funny lines, cute romance. And I'm sure you'll enjoy Sutton Foster in the role.

I like fun musicals, and I had not read the reviews of Millie. I need the escapism. Thanx
Hi,
Pls don't say this! I will be seeing Millie within a week in London! Don't make me regret of buying a ticket for Millie!

The dancing is the BEST on Broadway. No one's choreography on Broadway right now can even come close to Rob Ashford's (well except Twyla's).

Oh? How about that Gower Champion-Randy Skinner choreography in 42nd Street?
I thought Twyla's chor. all looked the same after the first 20 minutes. And thats alot to say for me since I took modern dance and ballet for 10 years. The only thing that kept me awake during that godawful show was the music and some interesting set changes.
sutton is not going to be at the WE production.

I guess we should all be listening to NewYorkUniq about choreography...she took dance for 10 WHOLE years! Watch out. Hun...until you've seen Twyla's choreography for Baryshnikov (Push Comes to Shove, Sinatra Suite) don't bad mouth her. The woman is a genius and while her choreography for Movin' Out isn't the best of her work it is emotionally charged and simply the best thing on Broadway right now. Her movements that seem impromptu are actually extremely well calculated. With ceaseless motion that moves from simple and everyday to gigantic, athletic and powerful...I'm sorry but there is simply nothing like it.
wow..somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I have met and spoken extensivly with Twyla Tharp.I appreciate some of her "other" works. It's obvious by your icon that you are a big Movin Out fan. Updated On: 10/25/03 at 02:48 AM

Sutton is terrific--and she's great with her fans!
Hi,
I think Millie is a good musical. But the dancin/ choreography is not the BEST on Broadway! CHICAGO the musical and FOSSE is the BEST!!!! Bob Fosse is the best choreographer IN THE WORLD!!!!!! This is only my personal opinion.
My CHICAGO the musical group!
I agree, Fosse is untouchable.
